[00:01:19] [SPEAKER_05]: roles in the Star Wars universe. Mandalorian Season 1, Season 2, Boba Fett, Obi-Wan? Oh
[00:01:24] [SPEAKER_05]: my gosh. And who knows who else she's gonna be playing, but get ready for the Jawa
[00:01:29] [SPEAKER_05]: known as Tikka. Please welcome the only Jawa with an actual name. Tikka from Star
[00:01:34] [SPEAKER_05]: Wars, Leilani Shiu, how are you?
[00:01:36] [SPEAKER_01]: Great and you guys!
[00:01:37] [SPEAKER_05]: Oh we're doing great. We're hanging out with Star Wars royalty, we're doing pretty good.
[00:01:42] [SPEAKER_01]: Aw, thank you.
[00:01:42] [SPEAKER_05]: That's a pretty good con for us, right?
[00:01:45] [SPEAKER_01]: It's awesome.
[00:01:46] [SPEAKER_05]: Alright, before we dive into Star Wars and everything else, let's learn a little bit
[00:01:49] [SPEAKER_05]: about you. We have a segment on our show called Growing Up Geeky.
[00:01:53] [SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
[00:01:54] [SPEAKER_05]: What did you geek out on as a kid?
[00:01:56] [SPEAKER_01]: What did I geek out as a kid? Actually, I was a Star Wars fan because my... I had
[00:02:01] [SPEAKER_01]: a brother two years younger and of course he's into GI Joe, Star Wars, Star Trek, all
[00:02:09] [SPEAKER_01]: That's my dude. That's my dude. He's one of us, 100% one of us.
[00:02:12] [SPEAKER_01]: So you know it was just me and him, my parents own a restaurant so we would be playing so
[00:02:17] [SPEAKER_01]: he ain't gonna play with Barbies and he's younger so I wasn't into those back then
[00:02:23] [SPEAKER_01]: that we didn't have cool Barbies. We had the cheap worst-than-dollar tree doll.
[00:02:28] [SPEAKER_03]: I know what you're talking about.
[00:02:31] [SPEAKER_01]: Like the knockoff, it's like you know...
[00:02:33] [SPEAKER_01]: With the eyes that are scary.
[00:02:34] [SPEAKER_03]: Oh dude, yeah those ones?
[00:02:36] [SPEAKER_03]: Oh my god.
[00:02:37] [SPEAKER_03]: And then...
[00:02:37] [SPEAKER_03]: Scare the crap out of me.
[00:02:38] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah and they had scary movies back there. They had Twilight Zone and all that so I
[00:02:42] [SPEAKER_01]: wasn't into dolls. I was more of a pre-laid person instead of a Barbie person because
[00:02:48] [SPEAKER_01]: that kind of freaked me out with the eyes and stuff like that.
[00:02:51] [SPEAKER_01]: So my brother, he was into it and I was into the droids so I'm into the R2, the CP3Os.
[00:03:00] [SPEAKER_01]: I'm into that so being in this... it was like a dream because I was into the toys.
[00:03:07] [SPEAKER_01]: Right.
[00:03:07] [SPEAKER_03]: So you were already like way into it before that?
[00:03:10] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, yeah cause my brother would play with it. He'd play with the GI Joe's,
[00:03:12] [SPEAKER_01]: hey can you play with this? Can you rub up the Jeep or whatever.
[00:03:17] [SPEAKER_01]: He would be playing with the toys so I wanted to play with him.
[00:03:19] [SPEAKER_01]: I wanted to be like my brother.
[00:03:21] [SPEAKER_05]: The droids got me too as a kid because like my friends, they wanted to be like Han Solo
[00:03:26] [SPEAKER_05]: or Darth Vader. I'm like that's cool. I'll be the droids. That's cool.
[00:03:29] [SPEAKER_05]: I like the droids. They were so cool looking.
[00:03:30] [SPEAKER_05]: I love the droids.
[00:03:31] [SPEAKER_03]: James already looks like R2-D2 to me.
[00:03:33] [SPEAKER_03]: I know right?
[00:03:34] [SPEAKER_05]: I'm little like R2-D2.
[00:03:35] [SPEAKER_05]: Just joined us.
[00:03:35] [SPEAKER_05]: Ian Kenney Baker. That's what we're talking about.
[00:03:37] [SPEAKER_05]: Yes.
[00:03:39] [SPEAKER_05]: Alright so what inspired you to get into acting?
[00:03:43] [SPEAKER_01]: Okay so being that I'm a little person, I belong to the little people
[00:03:47] [SPEAKER_01]: in the organization called Little People of America.
[00:03:50] [SPEAKER_01]: And when I was younger, when I was born actually, they gave my mom and dad literature
[00:03:56] [SPEAKER_01]: and said hey she's normal. Just let you know your daughter is a little person
[00:03:59] [SPEAKER_01]: and look up the organization. Don't worry she's just a little different
[00:04:06] [SPEAKER_01]: but she's not autistic, nothing like that.
[00:04:09] [SPEAKER_01]: And when you get a chance I want you to look up Billy Barty.
[00:04:13] [SPEAKER_01]: So that's how I became known with Billy. Billy loved me and I belong to the organization.
[00:04:19] [SPEAKER_01]: So I guess he was more of the role model for us little people
[00:04:23] [SPEAKER_01]: because he's the most famous little person and he done like under the rainbow.
[00:04:28] [SPEAKER_01]: He's done, you name it, Willow.
[00:04:31] [SPEAKER_01]: You know he was the master of a little person being in the movie industry.
[00:04:36] [SPEAKER_03]: That's changed because it's inkled now.
[00:04:38] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, yeah, yeah. But still the most famous one is still going to be there.
[00:04:45] [SPEAKER_01]: He started the organization and so he had me do stuff.
[00:04:49] [SPEAKER_01]: So he did his own production. So he had short ribs, he did little skits, right?
[00:04:55] [SPEAKER_01]: B rated shows and so he would have me come do the Asian parts.
[00:05:00] [SPEAKER_01]: And it was cool because you know and I always wanted to be part of acting
[00:05:03] [SPEAKER_01]: but I didn't take it really seriously because I went to school, you know, with a kid.
[00:05:07] [SPEAKER_01]: Right. I went to school and everything.
[00:05:08] [SPEAKER_01]: So I belong to central casting which if nobody knows about it
[00:05:12] [SPEAKER_01]: it's a way to get in extras, background and everything.
[00:05:17] [SPEAKER_01]: So I always get picked up or like creature work or I get picked up or stand in work.
[00:05:22] [SPEAKER_01]: I stand in for kids. So it's not like a full time job
[00:05:27] [SPEAKER_01]: but it's something that you do, you know?
[00:05:29] [SPEAKER_01]: You can do it on the site.
[00:05:31] [SPEAKER_01]: And so my biggest role obviously was this.
[00:05:34] [SPEAKER_01]: I got a call one day from central, a call because usually they text you.
[00:05:38] [SPEAKER_01]: I got a call and they said hey we need you to come.
[00:05:41] [SPEAKER_01]: You don't have to audition. We need you to come to fitting.
[00:05:44] [SPEAKER_01]: And I was like okay. And so I go there.
[00:05:46] [SPEAKER_01]: They made me and I'm like this is the first time ever I had to sign a huge NDA first.
[00:05:50] [SPEAKER_01]: And I was like NDA for an extra? Really?
[00:05:52] [SPEAKER_01]: I was like what?
[00:05:54] [SPEAKER_01]: So I was like okay.
[00:05:55] [SPEAKER_01]: So I'm signing it, going in and it had me fit stuff.
[00:06:00] [SPEAKER_01]: And I just remember that day.
[00:06:02] [SPEAKER_01]: So at first I was fitted for a creature.
[00:06:04] [SPEAKER_01]: So they had all these heads.
[00:06:05] [SPEAKER_01]: And remember they coded everything.
[00:06:09] [SPEAKER_01]: That's why you guys didn't know about the show and there was no toys.
[00:06:11] [SPEAKER_01]: So they coded everything.
[00:06:13] [SPEAKER_01]: So all these heads that I had to try on
[00:06:15] [SPEAKER_01]: they had different names that I knew who they were.
[00:06:17] [SPEAKER_01]: And I'm like one said Warwick Davis, one said Billy Barty.
[00:06:21] [SPEAKER_01]: You know like all the famous little people that do creature work.
[00:06:24] [SPEAKER_01]: And I'm just like what is this? You know?
[00:06:26] [SPEAKER_01]: This is interesting.
[00:06:27] [SPEAKER_01]: So it could have been anything you know?
[00:06:29] [SPEAKER_01]: Because they do all the creature work.
[00:06:31] [SPEAKER_01]: And I was like they're trying all these things.
[00:06:33] [SPEAKER_01]: And us little people we're all different.
[00:06:35] [SPEAKER_01]: Like the type I am, the most common is a con of pleasure.
[00:06:40] [SPEAKER_01]: And so our heads are a little bit bigger.
[00:06:42] [SPEAKER_01]: Our limbs are shorter.
[00:06:43] [SPEAKER_01]: So I'm like how am I going to fit?
[00:06:46] [SPEAKER_01]: Like Billy Barty has had small.
[00:06:49] [SPEAKER_01]: Mini me has had small.
[00:06:50] [SPEAKER_01]: And I'm just like how do you expect me to fit this thing?
[00:06:55] [SPEAKER_01]: So they found one and I tried it on.
[00:06:57] [SPEAKER_01]: And then they said okay we'll call you when it's starting right?
[00:07:01] [SPEAKER_01]: I get another car.
[00:07:02] [SPEAKER_01]: Okay we have another fitting for you.
[00:07:04] [SPEAKER_01]: And I was like okay so I go and that's when I didn't know.
[00:07:07] [SPEAKER_01]: Because remember Jawa's, I just talked about it.
[00:07:10] [SPEAKER_01]: Jawa's are brown.
[00:07:11] [SPEAKER_01]: Gold eyes, right? Yellow eyes.
[00:07:13] [SPEAKER_01]: And this time they had us in the gray fitting.
[00:07:17] [SPEAKER_05]: Right the gray robes.
[00:07:18] [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, yeah.
[00:07:19] [SPEAKER_01]: They made them custom and red eyes.
[00:07:22] [SPEAKER_01]: So I was like interesting.
[00:07:23] [SPEAKER_01]: And the code name is different.
[00:07:24] [SPEAKER_01]: So we're named like I was like it says emerald.
[00:07:28] [SPEAKER_01]: And so I can talk about it because it's out there.
[00:07:30] [SPEAKER_01]: It says emerald but it's spelled like emerald agrocy.
[00:07:33] [SPEAKER_01]: So then I was like emerald.
[00:07:34] [SPEAKER_01]: I'm looking up emerald city.
[00:07:36] [SPEAKER_01]: I'm like oh my god it's a wizard of Oz right?
[00:07:39] [SPEAKER_01]: Like a spook of wizard of Oz.
[00:07:40] [SPEAKER_01]: Nothing right?
[00:07:41] [SPEAKER_01]: And I'm like why does it spell like emerald agrocy right?
[00:07:45] [SPEAKER_01]: So that was our coding.
[00:07:46] [SPEAKER_01]: So the first day on set all us little people are in a tent.
[00:07:49] [SPEAKER_01]: We're all dressed up, cloaked up, everything.
[00:07:52] [SPEAKER_01]: And none of us knew what we were.
[00:07:53] [SPEAKER_01]: Like I said we were gray, dark gray with the eyes.
[00:07:56] [SPEAKER_01]: So we get on set and we get placed and they start shooting
[00:08:01] [SPEAKER_01]: and they said okay bring out the baby.
[00:08:02] [SPEAKER_01]: So I'm like baby there's a baby here.
[00:08:04] [SPEAKER_01]: And all I could use here I can't see remember I can't see.
[00:08:06] [SPEAKER_01]: We're four layers of this mask.
[00:08:09] [SPEAKER_01]: And I'm like here baby.
[00:08:10] [SPEAKER_01]: Wow a baby in an on set right?
[00:08:12] [SPEAKER_01]: So then they film a little and then I okay you guys
[00:08:15] [SPEAKER_01]: can take off the emeralds let them breathe right?
[00:08:18] [SPEAKER_01]: Take off their mask.
[00:08:19] [SPEAKER_01]: So they take off the mask and I'm looking around
[00:08:21] [SPEAKER_01]: and I see this and they bring it out in a cradle right?
[00:08:24] [SPEAKER_01]: And then like oh my god is that Yoda?
[00:08:28] [SPEAKER_01]: What are we doing?
[00:08:29] [SPEAKER_01]: I was like is that his baby?
[00:08:31] [SPEAKER_01]: Because it's tiny right?
[00:08:33] [SPEAKER_01]: And I'm just like what are we filming?
[00:08:35] [SPEAKER_01]: And again they didn't call it Yoda or Species
[00:08:37] [SPEAKER_01]: or they didn't call it the baby.
[00:08:39] [SPEAKER_03]: So is that the moment you realize it was Star Wars?
[00:08:41] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah cause I was like is that cause he's a young little.
[00:08:43] [SPEAKER_01]: And he's so cute and I'm like he's so cute.
[00:08:47] [SPEAKER_01]: It looks like Yoda.
[00:08:50] [SPEAKER_01]: And I'm like alright and I'm looking around
[00:08:51] [SPEAKER_01]: and it's all dirt and everything.
[00:08:53] [SPEAKER_01]: And then I see a BB-8 but not BB-8 because it's BB-8
[00:08:57] [SPEAKER_01]: I think it was gray and dirty and everything.
[00:08:59] [SPEAKER_01]: So BB-George right?
[00:09:00] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah so it wasn't orange right?
[00:09:04] [SPEAKER_01]: So I'm like that looks like BB-8
[00:09:06] [SPEAKER_01]: but like dirty and different right?
[00:09:08] [SPEAKER_01]: And I'm like oh it's Star Wars?
[00:09:11] [SPEAKER_01]: What the heck?
[00:09:12] [SPEAKER_01]: I was so excited.
[00:09:15] [SPEAKER_01]: But yeah that's how I realized it.
[00:09:16] [SPEAKER_03]: That's like the dream come true right there right?
[00:09:18] [SPEAKER_03]: You see a Star Wars nerd you don't realize
[00:09:20] [SPEAKER_03]: you're in a Star Wars movie or Star Wars show.
[00:09:23] [SPEAKER_03]: And then you look over and I'm like I'm in Star Wars.
[00:09:26] [SPEAKER_03]: Oh my god I'm in Star Wars.
[00:09:27] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah like I'm like oh my god.
[00:09:29] [SPEAKER_01]: And then so we all go back into our holding area
[00:09:34] [SPEAKER_01]: and we're all talking about it
[00:09:35] [SPEAKER_01]: and we're like we're on Star Wars I think.
[00:09:37] [SPEAKER_01]: And they're like I think they'll too but we were gray
[00:09:39] [SPEAKER_01]: and we're like it looks like it looks like it.
[00:09:41] [SPEAKER_01]: Did you guys see that little Yoda?
[00:09:43] [SPEAKER_01]: They look so cute you know that little baby.
[00:09:45] [SPEAKER_05]: Everything's a little different but yeah everything's different
[00:09:47] [SPEAKER_01]: but I think we're on Star Wars.
[00:09:48] [SPEAKER_01]: But I don't know what we are we're like a little something
[00:09:51] [SPEAKER_01]: you know so we didn't even know we were Jawa.
[00:09:54] [SPEAKER_01]: Wow yeah.
[00:09:55] [SPEAKER_01]: Like I said they called us Emeralds.
[00:09:56] [SPEAKER_01]: We were named until later they finally told us
[00:09:59] [SPEAKER_01]: and we're like oh my god.
[00:10:00] [SPEAKER_01]: Like I said we had we had to keep this a secret couldn't take it.
[00:10:03] [SPEAKER_01]: We were not allowed to tell our family, tell our old buddy
[00:10:05] [SPEAKER_01]: and then so as you know this was dropped because
[00:10:09] [SPEAKER_01]: Disney wanted their own streaming
[00:10:12] [SPEAKER_01]: because everybody had like Netflix
[00:10:14] [SPEAKER_01]: all of them were doing really well.
[00:10:16] [SPEAKER_01]: So the way they dropped this is because the number one show
[00:10:19] [SPEAKER_01]: when they drop on Black Friday
[00:10:21] [SPEAKER_01]: it's always a Star Wars blockbuster
[00:10:23] [SPEAKER_01]: blockbuster right?
[00:10:25] [SPEAKER_01]: It always does very well and the toys do very well.
[00:10:28] [SPEAKER_01]: So they drop Mandalorian
[00:10:30] [SPEAKER_01]: right same time.
[00:10:32] [SPEAKER_01]: And but the secretive
[00:10:34] [SPEAKER_01]: John didn't let it out.
[00:10:35] [SPEAKER_01]: The kids when it came out there was no toys
[00:10:38] [SPEAKER_01]: but tell didn't know about it nobody knew about it.
[00:10:41] [SPEAKER_01]: So it was so cool that it took off that people were making
[00:10:44] [SPEAKER_01]: their own crocheting, their own babies and stuff
[00:10:47] [SPEAKER_01]: drawing them trying to make a puppet
[00:10:50] [SPEAKER_01]: because our kid wanted baby Yoda.
[00:10:52] [SPEAKER_03]: Right because famously that was like the big thing
[00:10:55] [SPEAKER_03]: is that he did not release it to anyone
[00:10:57] [SPEAKER_03]: and nobody knew it existed.
[00:10:58] [SPEAKER_01]: We couldn't say nothing if we didn't even leak
[00:11:00] [SPEAKER_01]: we didn't trouble you know we can do interviews
[00:11:03] [SPEAKER_01]: and do nothing.
[00:11:04] [SPEAKER_01]: Absolutely.
[00:11:05] [SPEAKER_03]: I mean everybody we know that's worked on the Mandalorian
[00:11:08] [SPEAKER_03]: they've all had the same story.
[00:11:09] [SPEAKER_03]: I saw this character and wasn't allowed to talk about it.
[00:11:13] [SPEAKER_01]: Nope we couldn't tell nobody, we couldn't tell family members anything.
[00:11:15] [SPEAKER_03]: That's so crazy.
[00:11:16] [SPEAKER_05]: I love these behind the scenes stories
[00:11:18] [SPEAKER_05]: because we've talked to some friends that are in the 501st
[00:11:21] [SPEAKER_05]: that were part of the show too
[00:11:22] [SPEAKER_05]: and it's the same thing they're like alright I guess we're going to dress up
[00:11:25] [SPEAKER_05]: you're asking us to dress up and come down
[00:11:27] [SPEAKER_05]: and do something you know we're standing around
[00:11:29] [SPEAKER_05]: and you're like all of a sudden hey by the way
[00:11:31] [SPEAKER_05]: we're filming the next piece of Star Wars
[00:11:33] [SPEAKER_05]: and you're in it just like you you know
[00:11:35] [SPEAKER_05]: you were filming the next piece of Star Wars
[00:11:37] [SPEAKER_05]: and you're part of it.
[00:11:38] [SPEAKER_00]: Isn't that cool?
[00:11:39] [SPEAKER_03]: One of our friends was one of the scout troopers
[00:11:40] [SPEAKER_03]: that stole baby Yoda in episode 9.
[00:11:43] [SPEAKER_03]: Oh yeah.
[00:11:43] [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah so he was one of those scout troopers
[00:11:47] [SPEAKER_03]: before they changed it to Jason Sudeikis
[00:11:48] [SPEAKER_03]: but yeah he was the guy that was actually in the suit.
[00:11:51] [SPEAKER_01]: Oh yeah.
[00:11:53] [SPEAKER_05]: Real quick do you have any more fun behind the scenes stories?
[00:11:56] [SPEAKER_05]: I love these stories.
[00:11:57] [SPEAKER_01]: My behind the scenes okay so the directors
[00:12:00] [SPEAKER_01]: really liked me in season one.
[00:12:01] [SPEAKER_01]: So that's how come I got picked up being casted
[00:12:03] [SPEAKER_01]: I was the only one that got casted for season 2.
[00:12:06] [SPEAKER_01]: Nice.
[00:12:06] [SPEAKER_01]: So I would come.
[00:12:08] [SPEAKER_01]: Except for Kyle because you know they throw him off
[00:12:10] [SPEAKER_01]: they throw him off.
[00:12:10] [SPEAKER_01]: Kyle did the yeah.
[00:12:11] [SPEAKER_01]: Because they throw him off the sand crawls and stuff
[00:12:12] [SPEAKER_01]: so it's easy to bring him back.
[00:12:14] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah well he was the stunt
[00:12:14] [SPEAKER_01]: he did stunts so he's different he did stunts
[00:12:17] [SPEAKER_01]: so me I was just the Jawa
[00:12:20] [SPEAKER_01]: and so then I got picked up as an actual cast Jawa
[00:12:23] [SPEAKER_01]: so we were there
[00:12:26] [SPEAKER_01]: and then so then they would bring me on different days
[00:12:29] [SPEAKER_01]: just by myself and they would see me
[00:12:32] [SPEAKER_01]: because I got to know the stormtroopers
[00:12:34] [SPEAKER_01]: because when we're in holding waiting to be shot
[00:12:36] [SPEAKER_01]: I would be in the back and I would be talking to them
[00:12:38] [SPEAKER_01]: and hear their stories because those guys
[00:12:40] [SPEAKER_01]: I feel so bad for them and I can't believe
[00:12:42] [SPEAKER_01]: the 501st I praise you for wearing those outfits
[00:12:45] [SPEAKER_01]: because on the set oh my god
[00:12:49] [SPEAKER_01]: they're pinched in certain places
[00:12:52] [SPEAKER_01]: it's harder for them to go to the bathroom
[00:12:54] [SPEAKER_01]: they had to take off like I had to take
[00:12:55] [SPEAKER_01]: all kinds of stuff off in order to go to the bathroom
[00:12:58] [SPEAKER_01]: but then they're like
[00:13:00] [SPEAKER_01]: they had to take all the armor off
[00:13:01] [SPEAKER_01]: all the armor then they got masks
[00:13:04] [SPEAKER_01]: it's a protection to put them together
[00:13:06] [SPEAKER_01]: just to go and walk or go to the bathroom
[00:13:08] [SPEAKER_01]: and so I would have all these stories
[00:13:10] [SPEAKER_01]: I'd be talking to them backstage
[00:13:12] [SPEAKER_01]: so when we get on set and they're like
[00:13:14] [SPEAKER_01]: okay they're not gonna just run this way
