[00:01:15] A Comic Conversation!
[00:01:18] Our next guest has performed alongside Johnny Depp, Paul Bettany, Rowan Atkinson as well as Taylor Lautner,
[00:01:32] a member of the British stunt registry and was a student of the prestigious identity school of acting known for producing stars such as John Boyega.
[00:01:43] His first movie was 47 Ronin with Keanu Reeves and went on to be a part of Willow, Black Widow, Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness,
[00:01:52] Fantastic Beasts and the Secrets of Dumbledore, Avengers Age of Ultron, Havoc, BRI, Batgirl, the movie that we all know didn't end up happening,
[00:02:03] Andor, The Marvels, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom.
[00:02:05] Ladies and gentlemen, please welcome to the stage action actor, David Chung!
[00:02:32] And he's got the coolest voice in the world.
[00:02:34] Because he's from like London or something.
[00:02:37] England, England.
[00:02:38] Everything sounds better when you're English and you have an English accent.
[00:02:41] Oh, thank you, thank you.
[00:02:42] Being Brit sounds better, that's all it is.
[00:02:44] Right?
[00:02:45] No, I love the American accent.
[00:02:46] I mean, I would love to like learn the American accent, but you know, it's quite hard so I need more practice.
[00:02:53] It's just as hard for you as a British accent is for us, so.
[00:02:56] Yeah, you think so?
[00:02:58] Have you tried?
[00:02:59] I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, like my, my, my British accent is offensive, you know?
[00:03:02] Oh yeah?
[00:03:03] It's, it's, it's very, uh, it's very, uh, Dick Van Dijk levels.
[00:03:08] Alright, do your ROI.
[00:03:08] Do your ROI.
[00:03:09] Do one, do one, let me see you.
[00:03:10] No, no, no, not like that.
[00:03:12] No.
[00:03:12] Uh, it's actually not too bad.
[00:03:14] Um, see at the moment I have no reason to talk and say anything.
[00:03:18] Just, it's, it's, it's a little difficult for me.
[00:03:20] Oh, that's pretty good.
[00:03:21] When I'm, when I'm trying to talk, but it's just fairly just, I, I don't know what to say, so.
[00:03:26] It's pretty good, it's pretty good.
[00:03:27] Oh, okay, alright.
[00:03:29] Well done.
[00:03:29] Alright, before we get into Star Wars and everything else, uh, what is something that
[00:03:34] people are nerding out on that you just don't understand the point of?
[00:03:39] Um, I guess, like, the TikTok dancing.
[00:03:42] TikTok dancing.
[00:03:44] Yeah, there's so much TikTok dancing right now.
[00:03:46] And the amount of, like, hits that they get, like, some videos that I don't, I don't really get,
[00:03:52] like, they get millions of hits.
[00:03:53] I'm just like, how are they, how's that happening?
[00:03:56] Like, maybe I should do some TikTok dancing.
[00:04:00] Yeah, there you go.
[00:04:01] Yeah, maybe, maybe.
[00:04:02] TikToks don't work, maybe that's a thing.
[00:04:03] Yeah.
[00:04:06] Okay, how did you get into acting?
[00:04:08] We talked about, um, where did you go to school again?
[00:04:11] Pardon?
[00:04:11] Where did you go to school again?
[00:04:13] Same.
[00:04:13] So I studied at Identity School of Acting in London.
[00:04:17] That's right.
[00:04:17] And that's where John Boyega went as well?
[00:04:19] Yeah, John Boyega.
[00:04:21] Um, have you, so, have you always wanted to be a stunt actor, actor?
[00:04:27] I, so, basically I, I've always been doing martial arts and performing on stage, like,
[00:04:34] doing live shows from a really young age.
[00:04:36] Um, cause my granddad was like a Kung Fu master from China.
[00:04:41] So, he taught me martial arts from a really young age.
[00:04:44] And, I wanted to make my parents proud.
[00:04:46] You know how Asian parents are?
[00:04:47] They're like, be a doctor, be a lawyer.
[00:04:50] I don't know.
[00:04:50] I don't know what these guys are.
[00:04:50] You know, study hard, be a banker.
[00:04:53] So I'm like, I kinda, you know, I kinda can't sit still.
[00:04:57] And it's so hard, like, to sit still for hours and I keep falling asleep.
[00:05:01] So, I basically fell into, um, doing like film work.
[00:05:06] I, I kind of got scouted.
[00:05:08] Like, I did an audition and they were like, you know, we want you to, you know, be in this film,
[00:05:13] which is 47 Ronin with Keanu Reeves.
[00:05:15] So I was like, you know, training with like some amazing stunt people and-
[00:05:19] Any, uh, Keanu Reeves fans out there?
[00:05:24] Yeah, yeah.
[00:05:24] There you go.
[00:05:25] And then I met some amazing people under my first job.
[00:05:28] And they taught me, you know, just, just keep trying.
[00:05:32] Like, keep training, go to drama school, you know, join like acting agents.
[00:05:37] And so I did what they told me.
[00:05:38] I followed, you know, I followed my idols.
[00:05:41] Like, listen to my idols and now here I am.
[00:05:45] So, really paid off.
[00:05:47] And you got to film at like Pinewood Studios, right?
[00:05:50] Like-
[00:05:50] Yeah, Pinewood Studios.
[00:05:51] Like, iconic Pinewood Studios.
[00:05:52] Like Star Wars was filmed there.
[00:05:54] Star Wars, Willow's been filmed there.
[00:05:57] Yeah, James Bond, you know, the James Bond franchise.
[00:06:00] Pretty much every James Bond movie.
[00:06:01] Yeah.
[00:06:02] It's a cool place.
[00:06:05] Which, I mean, are you-
[00:06:06] You were also in James Bond, right?
[00:06:08] Well, years ago I did Skyfall.
[00:06:11] Um, I was cast as a boat driver for Daniel Craig.
[00:06:16] And I became the backup boat driver.
[00:06:18] So I didn't make it on screen, but I was there on the freezing lake.
[00:06:22] While my, um, my colleague was driving him towards the casino.
[00:06:27] So-
[00:06:28] I'd count that on my resume.
[00:06:30] Amazing memories.
[00:06:31] So, can't complain.
[00:06:33] By technicality, he was in a Bond movie.
[00:06:36] Yeah.
[00:06:36] Yeah.
[00:06:37] Bucket list ticked off.
[00:06:40] Okay.
[00:06:40] I know you can't, uh, tell us a lot of the things that you've worked on that aren't out,
[00:06:45] but can you share any fun stories of being on set?
[00:06:50] Whether it's with other actors, with other-
[00:06:52] Yeah, yeah, yeah.
[00:06:53] Definitely.
[00:06:53] Rigging.
[00:06:54] I know you do a lot of rig work too.
[00:06:56] It's not even a term-
[00:06:57] Wire work.
[00:06:58] Wire work.
[00:06:59] Yeah, yeah, yeah.
[00:06:59] I'm an idiot.
[00:07:00] Uh, so one of my favorite films with Johnny Depp is called Mordecai.
[00:07:05] Uh, we basically had an acting scene together where we're sitting next to each other.
[00:07:10] And I had a boss and basically they're doing like an art deal.
[00:07:15] And Johnny Depp was so funny.
[00:07:17] Every scene I had to bite my tongue to not like laugh.
[00:07:20] Cause he makes-
[00:07:21] Cause he's so funny.
[00:07:22] He makes everyone laugh.
[00:07:23] So, before a take, I know that I had to get into character.
[00:07:27] I had to- I'm playing this like serious gangster.
[00:07:29] And I basically bite my tongue like as hard as I can.
[00:07:33] And I pinch myself in the leg.
[00:07:34] So like, I don't laugh.
[00:07:36] Cause the way-
[00:07:37] Like you know how he is.
[00:07:38] He like puts on a British accent.
[00:07:39] And then he says like random funny jokes.
[00:07:42] And it just makes like the cast and crew laugh.
[00:07:44] And I literally like couldn't break character.
[00:07:47] I knew I shouldn't break character.
[00:07:49] So, yeah, basically that's one of the stories.
[00:07:56] So, uh, Keanu Reeves, Johnny Depp, uh, Rowan Atkinson.
[00:08:01] Rowan Atkinson.
[00:08:03] Mm-hmm.
[00:08:04] What else?
[00:08:04] Taylor Lautner.
[00:08:06] Taylor Lautner.
[00:08:07] Yeah.
[00:08:07] You've worked with like huge, huge names.
[00:08:09] It's amazing.
[00:08:11] Oh, thank you.
[00:08:12] Thank you.
[00:08:12] How that comes about.
[00:08:13] Um.
[00:08:13] Yeah.
[00:08:13] It feels like so surreal.
[00:08:15] Like being able to work with such big actors and learn from them.
[00:08:19] And they're very inspiring.
[00:08:20] Very inspiring.
[00:08:22] It just makes me want to carry on and just keep working hard.
[00:08:27] Um, keep watching movies, keep supporting movies.
[00:08:32] And yeah, doing, doing things like this, coming to the comic cons.
[00:08:36] It's amazing.
[00:08:37] It's amazing.
[00:08:38] And it, so this is your first time in the U.S.?
[00:08:40] Yeah.
[00:08:41] Uh, it's my first time signing in America and first time in Boise.
[00:08:47] Oh yeah.
[00:08:47] This is our second time in Boise.
[00:08:49] Yeah.
[00:08:49] Okay.
[00:08:50] Can we get into Star Wars?
[00:08:52] What?
[00:08:52] Let's get into some Star Wars.
[00:08:53] Get in some, yeah, let's definitely get into some Star Wars.
[00:08:56] Okay.
[00:08:56] So, Andor, you know, who's watched Star Wars Andor out there?
[00:09:01] Oh my gosh.
[00:09:02] One of the, I would say it's like the way Star Wars needs to be told nowadays.
[00:09:08] Like between, between Andor and the Mandalorian, that long form storytelling.
[00:09:14] That's how Star Wars needs to be told.
[00:09:17] Right?
[00:09:17] Mm-hmm.
[00:09:18] So tell us about the process of getting into Star Wars.
[00:09:21] Like, so basically, so basically I was contacted, um, through the stunt coordinator, Mark Maley,
[00:09:31] who was like, okay, uh, we have a audition for you.
[00:09:35] They're casting for a few characters.
[00:09:37] You need to have acting experience.
[00:09:39] You need to do your own stunts.
[00:09:41] And here's the script.
[00:09:42] The script was three pages and I had to give it within 24 hours.
[00:09:47] And I was like, no pressure.
[00:09:49] Because you know how it is.
[00:09:50] You have to learn the lines.
[00:09:52] You have to set up the camera.
[00:09:54] You know, you have to do the lighting and everything.
[00:09:56] Like, and find someone to read the script with you.
[00:10:00] So it's literally like, okay, this is like all or nothing.
[00:10:03] Because I was like so excited.
[00:10:04] I was like, Star Wars was one of my bucket list projects to be a part, like franchises to be a part of.
[00:10:10] So then basically I submitted the audition tape.
[00:10:13] I did my best, you know.
[00:10:16] Um, and then I just sat and waited.
[00:10:19] Sat and waited.
[00:10:21] And then a few weeks later they confirmed me for the job.
[00:10:24] They were like, yeah, they really want you, um, keep these dates free.
[00:10:28] And then I was like, yes, finally.
[00:10:32] And I was so happy.
[00:10:33] I was just so happy.
[00:10:35] And yeah, that's how I got on.
[00:10:37] So you knew it was Star Wars before?
[00:10:39] Yeah.
[00:10:39] You wanted to support it?
[00:10:40] Yeah, there were rumors.
[00:10:41] There was rumors.
[00:10:43] Oh, see, it was rumors.
[00:10:44] Yeah, yeah.
[00:10:44] Because we've heard so many stories that actors are like reading lines for some project that they don't know about.
[00:10:51] And they're like, wait a second, destroyed?
[00:10:54] Yeah, no.
[00:10:55] So the script was completely, like completely different to Star Wars.
[00:11:00] It was like, no, like sort of like a scene from another movie.
[00:11:05] Um, yeah, I think it was called Good Will Hunting.
[00:11:09] Oh, dude.
[00:11:09] And it's another scene.
[00:11:10] It was completely different.
[00:11:11] Like they kept it really secret.
[00:11:13] Right.
[00:11:14] Super secret.
[00:11:16] Could you tell the difference?
[00:11:17] Like when you got on set, like, uh, it seems like the budgets are so different.
[00:11:23] The, between like the sets and, um, the costume designs and everything like that.
[00:11:28] It was the best of the best.
[00:11:30] Like, it felt like I was literally in the universe because the sets that they built were so real.
[00:11:36] Like the, the detail was so detailed.
[00:11:39] Everything from like the building, the walls to like inside, like the rooms.
[00:11:45] Right.
[00:11:45] You know, it was just like being inside, you know, Star Wars, which I was.
[00:11:51] Right.
[00:11:52] It's like once you walk on set, you're like, this is Star Wars.
[00:11:54] Yeah.
[00:11:55] Yeah.
[00:11:56] I was like, it felt so surreal.
[00:11:58] It was like a dream come true.
[00:12:00] Yeah.
[00:12:00] But I'm also in a prison, but it is a Star Wars prison.
[00:12:04] Well, yeah, definitely.
[00:12:06] Yeah.
[00:12:07] That's the cool thing about Star Wars.
[00:12:08] Like they're kind of leading the way of going back to like practical set design and not using, um, blue screen as much.
[00:12:17] Yes, they have the volume, but, um, but you, you didn't, you weren't in the volume.
[00:12:22] You were all on practical sets.
[00:12:24] So it was a mixture.
[00:12:26] Okay.
[00:12:26] It was more blue screen and green screen.
[00:12:28] Um, cause, um, yeah, Mandalorian used the LED screens.
[00:12:34] Uh, while it's for my scenes, like the spaceship, we're in the spaceship and, um, but we were in the studio and blue screen was easier to do than bringing in the LED studio, uh, LED TV screens and stuff like that.
[00:12:51] So cool.
[00:12:52] Thank you.
[00:12:53] Thank you.
[00:12:54] I love talking to Star Wars actors.
[00:12:56] It's so cool.
[00:12:57] Sorry.
[00:12:57] I'm nerding out.
[00:12:58] Well, I gotta ask this man between every project that you've worked on, uh, between Star Wars, Marvel, uh, DC, um, you know, technically bond, but I mean like, you know, what, what's, um, what's something fun, like a fond memory from any of the sets you've been on?
[00:13:15] Like what's one of your favorite, most favorite memories since you've been acting?
[00:13:18] Um, definitely being on Andor has been one of my favorite and most like exciting cause I do, cause I get blown up in Andor.
[00:13:31] Right.
[00:13:31] And we rehearsed the stunt like for like hours, basically in the studio.
[00:13:37] We're like getting like pulled on a wire.
[00:13:40] So I'm like flying in the air and we tried out different ways to fly.
[00:13:45] And every time I hit the ground, I would feel it.
[00:13:48] I'd hear my body like, like crack.
[00:13:50] Yeah.
[00:13:51] So for me, that was like a challenge, but like really exciting challenge at the same time.
[00:13:57] And I just couldn't wait to do this stunt and couldn't wait to, you know, do my best and make the director proud.
[00:14:03] And yeah, I really enjoyed the show.
[00:14:08] Um, yeah, there's a lot, there's a lot, but that's funny cause we were watching, we were out to dinner yesterday and we were watching WrestleMania.
[00:14:16] Yeah.
[00:14:16] And we were like, is that real or fake? And you're like, Oh, that's real. Like the way they took that bump. You're like, that was real.
[00:14:22] Yeah.
[00:14:22] Oh, that's funny.
[00:14:24] Definitely.
[00:14:25] Um, Doctor Strange, Multiverse of Madness.
[00:14:30] Mm-hmm.
[00:14:31] I mean, it's out now. We can talk about it, right?
[00:14:32] It's out now. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
[00:14:33] Okay. We can talk about it.
[00:14:34] We can talk.
[00:14:35] Yeah.
[00:14:38] Karmatage, right?
[00:14:38] Karmatage.
[00:14:39] Karmatage.
[00:14:40] Yeah.
[00:14:40] I was part of Karmatage.
[00:14:41] Can you tell us about that set and being in that movie?
[00:14:43] Oh yeah.
[00:14:44] Yeah, so.
[00:14:44] You're in that scene when she like kind of invades and destroys Karmatage, right?
[00:14:48] Yeah.
[00:14:48] Yeah, yeah, yeah.
[00:14:50] So we were like an army of Karmatage basically trying to stop Scarlet Witch from attacking us,
[00:14:57] but she ends up, you know, blowing us up.
[00:14:59] So for my character, I basically, we were like doing the shield work, trying to stop her powers from invading the temple.
[00:15:09] And basically, you know, she gets through and she like blows us all up.
[00:15:14] And I basically get blown up. Like I'm trying to escape from her.
[00:15:17] But then the whole set literally like was filled with explosives.
[00:15:22] And then they'll be like, okay, so there will be an explosive there, there, there, there, there, there.
[00:15:26] And you've got to run through it.
[00:15:27] I'm like, sure.
[00:15:30] This way or that way?
[00:15:31] Okay, sure, sure.
[00:15:32] Okay, so I have to like spot the explosives.
[00:15:34] And I'm like, if I go there, I'm going to die.
[00:15:37] So I better go this way.
[00:15:41] They were at least marked, right?
[00:15:42] Like you could see like an X over them or something like that?
[00:15:44] Yeah, yeah, yeah.
[00:15:44] Like they have some like some tape and a few markers.
[00:15:49] Like a landmine.
[00:15:50] And you're just like, oh, yeah, there might be one over there.
[00:15:52] Yeah, yeah.
[00:15:53] So literally like you have to be switched on.
[00:15:56] You have to, you know, be like prepared for anything.
[00:16:01] And yeah, on the first take, the whole set blows up.
[00:16:05] Like it becomes smoky.
[00:16:07] And, you know, everyone's like flying everywhere.
[00:16:10] A lot of my friends, they're like on wires.
[00:16:12] They're just like, it was just amazing.
[00:16:14] It was like watching fireworks.
[00:16:16] But, you know, you're in it.
[00:16:19] I imagine just being a gaffer on that set, like.
[00:16:21] Yeah, literally, literally.
[00:16:23] You can see like the behind the scenes on YouTube and stuff like that.
[00:16:27] Well, Disney Plus has a whole behind the scenes of that.
[00:16:30] Yeah, yeah, yeah.
[00:16:30] So you see that where our temple gets blown up and then you see me like, you know, just flying, whatever.
[00:16:37] Yeah.
[00:16:38] In the explosion.
[00:16:40] So that was fun.
[00:16:41] That was fun.
[00:16:43] What is that series on Disney Plus, the behind the scenes?
[00:16:46] I forgot what it's called, but I can't go back and watch that now.
[00:16:50] Yeah, I watch them as soon as they come out on Disney Plus.
[00:16:53] So I was like, I probably saw you in one of those scenes being blown up, man.
[00:16:57] Yeah, yeah.
[00:16:58] I still I still need to, you know, download it and stuff like that.
[00:17:01] Pull it on my Instagram.
[00:17:04] So not to spoil anything, but did you live or die?
[00:17:08] Well, I died.
[00:17:09] Oh no.
[00:17:11] Hey, but it's Marvel.
[00:17:12] Nobody really stays there.
[00:17:14] Yeah, we just get...
[00:17:15] He'll be back.
[00:17:15] You know, we just get, you know...
[00:17:17] You're a wizard.
[00:17:18] It's all right.
[00:17:18] I put on a wink.
[00:17:19] Wong's just gonna like, you know, open a portal and everybody's just gonna walk right out.
[00:17:23] Yeah, that's it.
[00:17:24] That's it.
[00:17:25] That's what happens.
[00:17:26] He's the Sorcerer Supreme.
[00:17:28] He can do what he wants.
[00:17:29] That's it.
[00:17:31] Who did you get to work with on Doctor Strange?
[00:17:35] So like, you mentioned Paul Bettany.
[00:17:38] Did you get to work with Benedict Wong?
[00:17:40] Oh yeah.
[00:17:41] So Benedict Wong was there, Benedict Cumberbatch, Elizabeth Olsen.
[00:17:46] You know, the usual people.
[00:17:48] That's awesome.
[00:17:48] It was funny, the first time we indirectly met Benedict Wong one time.
[00:17:53] Yeah.
[00:17:53] And again, British accent, I wasn't expecting it, right?
[00:17:56] Yeah, yeah.
[00:17:57] Oh wait, he doesn't talk like he does when he's Wong?
[00:18:00] He has like a full on British accent?
[00:18:02] Okay.
[00:18:02] Yeah, he does, he does.
[00:18:04] He's really good.
[00:18:05] Yeah, his accents are really good.
[00:18:07] Yeah, yeah.
[00:18:08] He's a really good actor.
[00:18:09] I like him.
[00:18:11] Cool guy.
[00:18:12] By the way, if you guys have any questions, just get them ready.
[00:18:14] We'll have a little QA session.
[00:18:17] There's definitely stuff we cannot talk about.
[00:18:20] We don't want to break NDAs or get David here in trouble.
[00:18:24] But we'll do as much as we can and he might give you a nod or a wink, maybe a thumbs up, but we'll see.
[00:18:30] Or, you know, thumbs down.
[00:18:32] Just, you know, that just means that we have security to export you out of the building.
[00:18:37] If you guys have questions though, just feel free to start lining up in the middle right here.
[00:18:40] And that way I'll bring out a mic and we'll answer some questions for you guys.
[00:18:44] Cool.
[00:18:45] That being said, tell me about Batgirl.
[00:18:47] Because I will never see Batgirl.
[00:18:50] Oh my gosh, I'm just teasing, I'm just teasing.
[00:18:53] So, yes, for those of you who know, you know, the cancelled or the written off Batgirl movie.
[00:18:59] Yeah.
[00:19:01] He was involved in it.
[00:19:02] We're not going to say anything on that, but I mean, you know, whatever you can say, man.
[00:19:06] We're allowed to talk about it.
[00:19:08] You're allowed to talk about it?
[00:19:09] I think, yeah, because everyone else is like talking about it now.
[00:19:12] Okay.
[00:19:13] They cancelled the show.
[00:19:14] Well, I basically fight Batman in Batgirl.
[00:19:17] You fought Batman?
[00:19:18] Yeah.
[00:19:19] What?
[00:19:19] There's pictures on Twitter already.
[00:19:21] Like, yeah, I'll show you later.
[00:19:24] I fought Batman.
[00:19:25] Now I'm like all over the place.
[00:19:27] What version of Batman was it?
[00:19:29] The original, like.
[00:19:30] The original, so was it, but I mean like, was it Keaton?
[00:19:33] Was it?
[00:19:34] Keaton.
[00:19:34] It was Keaton?
[00:19:36] Dude, you fought Michael Keaton?
[00:19:38] Well, yeah.
[00:19:39] Or his stunt double I guess?
[00:19:40] His stunt double beat the crap out of me.
[00:19:45] But, yeah, it's Michael Keaton.
[00:19:47] Okay.
[00:19:47] It's all over the internet, so I'm allowed to talk about it.
[00:19:50] Okay, let's calm down, because we're going to get David in trouble.
[00:19:52] Let's calm down.
[00:19:53] So, we understand you fought Batman.
[00:19:56] That's amazing and we want to know everything about that.
[00:20:00] Give us a vibe of the movie, because I don't think the plot ever came out.
[00:20:06] No, no.
[00:20:06] Aside from we knew that the villain was Firefly, but I mean like we didn't get very much of that.
[00:20:11] Oh, speaking of, did you get to work with Brendan Fraser?
[00:20:15] I didn't meet him.
[00:20:16] Okay.
[00:20:16] Because for my scene, it was like a night shoot.
[00:20:20] And basically Batgirl, when she was younger, she's with her father.
[00:20:26] Okay.
[00:20:26] And they come across these like gangsters.
[00:20:30] So, I was playing like a lucky hand.
[00:20:31] My character was called Lucky Hand Gang Member.
[00:20:35] I was a gang member.
[00:20:36] So, there was a group of us.
[00:20:37] We basically surround Batgirl and Batgirl's dad.
[00:20:42] And then Batman comes out of nowhere.
[00:20:44] He flies out of nowhere.
[00:20:46] And he boots one of us.
[00:20:48] And we fly back.
[00:20:49] And then we surround him.
[00:20:50] We're like, let's get him.
[00:20:52] You know?
[00:20:52] But then we'll get beaten up.
[00:20:55] Right.
[00:20:56] And get our heads smashed in.
[00:20:58] So, she wasn't Barbara Gordon then?
[00:21:00] Huh?
[00:21:01] She wasn't Barbara Gordon then?
[00:21:02] That version of Batgirl?
[00:21:05] No, no.
[00:21:05] Okay.
[00:21:08] Stop trying to get him in trouble.
[00:21:10] That's not going to get him in trouble.
[00:21:11] Again, because that was one of the things I always wondered about.
[00:21:16] I didn't care that they respended the character.
[00:21:18] It was more like, okay, is she still Barbara Gordon?
[00:21:20] Is she still Commissioner Gordon's daughter?
[00:21:22] Right?
[00:21:23] And you know, if she's getting ambushed with her father and it's not Commissioner Gordon.
[00:21:27] Oh yeah, it is Commissioner Gordon.
[00:21:28] It is Commissioner Gordon?
[00:21:29] Okay.
[00:21:31] Miss Hurt.
[00:21:32] Yeah, yeah, yeah.
[00:21:33] She is Commissioner Gordon's daughter.
[00:21:35] Okay.
[00:21:35] Yeah, yeah, yeah.
[00:21:36] When she was younger.
[00:21:37] Yeah.
[00:21:38] Which is, I mean, that's kind of cool.
[00:21:40] So I'm assuming that's kind of like her, that's her moment where she's like, I want
[00:21:44] to be Batgirl.
[00:21:45] Yeah, yeah, yeah.
[00:21:46] Because she sees Batman.
[00:21:47] Yeah.
[00:21:48] Yeah.
[00:21:48] So you get that kind of origin.
[00:21:50] That's awesome.
[00:21:51] I have so many questions in my head that I can't ask.
[00:21:54] I know.
[00:21:57] Yeah.
[00:21:57] That's amazing.
[00:21:58] That's amazing.
[00:21:59] Thank you.
[00:22:00] Okay.
[00:22:01] We know you're in a couple new movies coming up.
[00:22:05] How do you get all these roles?
[00:22:07] Like you, I guess like, you're like the one guy that's been in DC and Marvel and continuing
[00:22:14] to be in DC and Marvel.
[00:22:16] And Star Wars.
[00:22:17] And Star Wars and whatever else.
[00:22:19] And Bond.
[00:22:19] Whoever your agent is.
[00:22:21] Kudos to your agent.
[00:22:22] I guess my face is like nice and ugly to play the bad guy all the time.
[00:22:26] So they like an ugly bad guy.
[00:22:28] You play every bad guy in every film and I'm okay with that.
[00:22:30] Yeah.
[00:22:31] I mean, I'm happy, you know.
[00:22:33] I'm happy to be.
[00:22:34] There's actors that's where they start off is that kind of like side extra characters.
[00:22:38] And in your case, you're a little bit more than just an extra.
[00:22:40] But I mean, like, you know, like that's how you get into doing a full on role.
[00:22:45] They like performers who know how to act and do their own stunts.
[00:22:50] And I've been doing it for like over 12 years.
[00:22:53] So it's like, like, okay, this guy is reliable.
[00:22:57] And, you know, it's a small industry.
[00:23:00] So they always try and use the same people.
[00:23:03] Right, right.
[00:23:03] Yeah, I was gonna ask.
[00:23:04] And I'm really lucky.
[00:23:05] How do you, are you like with the same stunt crew over and over?
[00:23:09] Or is it?
[00:23:09] Yeah, we work with the same stunt people like the British, you know, I'm on the British
[00:23:14] stunt register.
[00:23:14] So we always work with the same people.
[00:23:17] You always see like your friends and then you're like, hey, it's gonna be so fun because
[00:23:22] you're like working with your friends all the time.
[00:23:24] And it doesn't feel like work.
[00:23:25] We're like getting beaten up and like we're getting bruises and cuts.
[00:23:28] And it's like we're like so tired.
[00:23:31] But then we're just having so much fun.
[00:23:33] So it's just you and your friends doing parkour, right?
[00:23:35] Yeah, that's it.
[00:23:37] That's it.
[00:23:38] That's it.
[00:23:38] That's literally it.
[00:23:40] Is there anything that's been, I don't know, you're a tough guy.
[00:23:44] So anything that's been like scary or like, are we really gonna do this?
[00:23:50] And you're just like, okay, I guess we're gonna do this.
[00:23:52] Getting blown up in comertage.
[00:23:53] Getting blown up in comertage.
[00:23:55] Yeah, I guess like when you're on the set with so many explosives, you kind of think
[00:24:02] twice and like, am I gonna go to hospital or am I gonna come out alive?
[00:24:08] But it's always safe anyway.
[00:24:10] So I trust I trust like the team, you know, the special effects team.
[00:24:15] And I trust like the stunt coordinator.
[00:24:17] They're always like safe, you know.
[00:24:19] Okay.
[00:24:21] So yeah, it's trust, trusting and believing.
[00:24:26] Just a couple of bucks and nicks, you're fine.
[00:24:27] Positive thinking makes a big difference.
[00:24:30] Yeah.
[00:24:30] All right.
[00:24:31] Worst injury that you've had on set.
[00:24:35] So I always get asked this question.
[00:24:38] Like, I always come out of a new injury after every job.
[00:24:41] Like, it's like getting like a battle scar.
[00:24:43] After every fight, you're always gonna come out with something.
[00:24:46] Like if it's a little niggle on the shoulder or little bruise on the elbow
[00:24:50] or something like that.
[00:24:52] It's inevitable.
[00:24:54] Like you're always gonna come out with like a little cut off bruise.
[00:24:58] He gets those Christian Bale bruises where it's like, yeah, he looks fine.
[00:25:02] And then he pulls up his shirt and it's nothing but riddled with bruises and cuts all over his body.
[00:25:09] Maybe, maybe.
[00:25:11] Especially after like a fight scene.
[00:25:13] It's like, yeah, he didn't pull that punch.
[00:25:15] I got bruised.
[00:25:15] Yeah, we definitely get some bruises.
[00:25:18] Definitely.
[00:25:20] Okay.
[00:25:21] I don't want to get in trouble.
[00:25:25] But we have a couple movies coming out this year.
[00:25:27] But can you just give us any kind of inkling of say like the Marvels?
[00:25:34] And what's it like?
[00:25:36] What's it like being in the...
[00:25:37] I guess you can answer this for Doctor Strange as well.
[00:25:39] What's it like being on a Marvel set?
[00:25:45] I mean, there's a lot going on when you come on set.
[00:25:49] Everyone's doing their thing.
[00:25:51] Everyone's been working on it for a while.
[00:25:54] So they're very serious and focused.
[00:25:59] And they just want to get the job done.
[00:26:01] They don't want to do it again and again.
[00:26:03] They don't want to do so many takes.
[00:26:05] Right.
[00:26:06] So I guess it's like quite serious, especially in London.
[00:26:10] Like people want to get the stuff done.
[00:26:12] And it's very professional.
[00:26:15] But when you're with your friends, you always have fun.
[00:26:18] Right.
[00:26:18] So that's my, you know, experience on these film sets.
[00:26:23] Thank you.
[00:26:25] So I've got a couple of questions here that are more specific about some of the indie stuff that you've done.
[00:26:32] Yeah.
[00:26:33] And I mean, we know you're doing like a whole bunch of like big budget Hollywood stuff.
[00:26:38] Like again, we talk about all the Disney properties and everything like that.
[00:26:41] But for some people who are more into the fandoms and things like that,
[00:26:46] you've also been in a few properties that are going to be more specific.
[00:26:52] Two of them are considered fan films.
[00:26:54] Yeah, yeah.
[00:26:55] You know, they are definitely what the fans want versus what they're getting with the big budget stuff.
[00:27:01] So let's talk about Tian Xin Han.
[00:27:03] Mm-hmm.
[00:27:03] Right.
[00:27:05] You played a live action version of Tian Xin Han.
[00:27:08] Tell us about the experience of playing that character.
[00:27:13] So...
[00:27:13] Because he's such a pivotal DBZ character.
[00:27:16] Yes.
[00:27:16] But in something that's a fan film that was as good a quality as it was.
[00:27:21] Yeah.
[00:27:22] So when I was offered the role to be part of Dragon Ball Z, I was like, 100% yes.
[00:27:30] Like, I would shave my head to play him.
[00:27:32] You know?
[00:27:33] Because he had a bald head and I had like quite long hair at that time.
[00:27:36] And they're like, and we need you to buff up as well.
[00:27:39] And you only got one week to do it.
[00:27:40] I'm like, what the hell?
[00:27:42] Because I...
[00:27:42] They gave you a week to buff up?
[00:27:44] Yeah.
[00:27:44] They literally said, oh, we're filming next week.
[00:27:46] You know, you're going to be fighting Napa and you've got to get massive.
[00:27:51] And I'm like, oh my God.
[00:27:53] How the hell am I going to get that massive?
[00:27:55] Because you know how Tian Xin Han is like...
[00:27:56] Yeah, Tian's huge.
[00:27:58] He's like freaking stacked.
[00:28:00] I mean, for a leaner dude, he's pretty stacked.
[00:28:03] Yeah, yeah.
[00:28:03] He's super stacked.
[00:28:04] And I'm like, there's no way I'm going to like get as big as him.
[00:28:07] Unless I take steroids like straight away.
[00:28:09] Like start doing it today.
[00:28:11] So I literally just started eating like loads of protein, like turkey, chicken, spinach.
[00:28:19] And I was like, YouTubing, how does it get big?
[00:28:21] I was like, massive.
[00:28:22] You're just getting muscle failure every day.
[00:28:24] Yeah, literally.
[00:28:25] I was like, eat, sleep, train.
[00:28:26] Eat, sleep, train.
[00:28:27] Look in the mirror.
[00:28:28] Eat, sleep, train.
[00:28:29] Look in the mirror.
[00:28:31] I'm basically doing the Dwayne Johnson like life for a week.
[00:28:36] Literally, literally.
[00:28:37] It was tough.
[00:28:38] It was tough.
[00:28:38] But it really like...
[00:28:40] It really opened my eyes to like fitness and health and how to gain muscle.
[00:28:49] So yeah, it really, really changed the game for me.
[00:28:52] Really did.
[00:28:52] Was that filmed in the UK or did you come to LA for that?
[00:28:55] We filmed it in the UK.
[00:28:57] In the UK?
[00:28:58] Yeah.
[00:28:59] Yeah.
[00:29:00] Yeah.
[00:29:00] I mean, if you guys haven't gone to go see that or haven't looked on YouTube to see that
[00:29:05] film, the fight scenes are pretty on point.
[00:29:09] Yeah.
[00:29:10] Just type in YouTube, Dragon Ball Z, Saiyan Saga.
[00:29:16] Yeah.
[00:29:17] It should come up.
[00:29:18] It's got like a couple million hits on it.
[00:29:20] Yeah.
[00:29:21] It's like a training scene between Goku, Yamcha and Tien.
[00:29:25] And it's great.
[00:29:28] Thank you.
[00:29:28] The fighting in it is...
[00:29:30] I mean, again, we see the live action movie version that nobody wants to talk about.
[00:29:35] You know, and like there's barely any fighting in that movie.
[00:29:38] But then you see this training scene between Goku, Tien and Yamcha, which is very accurate
[00:29:43] to the show.
[00:29:44] Mm-hmm.
[00:29:45] And you guys are going at it like pretty hard.
[00:29:48] It was made by the fans, you know?
[00:29:49] The fan film made by fans and we know what we want.
[00:29:53] I mean, given you guys filmed in a week, between training, how much time did you guys get to
[00:30:00] choreograph the fights?
[00:30:01] A few days.
[00:30:03] Like one or two days.
[00:30:04] A couple of days.
[00:30:05] Like one or two days.
[00:30:06] Like I met up with Ryan, who was the actor who played Nappa.
[00:30:10] So we met up at a gym and we just did some fights.
[00:30:15] We put the fights together and just practiced.
[00:30:19] Yeah, because they're surprisingly well put together for something that was done that
[00:30:23] quick.
[00:30:23] Oh, thank you.
[00:30:23] Thank you.
[00:30:24] Yeah.
[00:30:24] Yeah, we worked hard.
[00:30:25] We worked really hard.
[00:30:26] Like it was tiring.
[00:30:29] I spent a lot of money on protein.
[00:30:34] Like just masking the entire time.
[00:30:36] It was worth it.
[00:30:37] It was worth it.
[00:30:38] Yeah.
[00:30:38] Yeah.
[00:30:38] You know, we're going to do our best.
[00:30:41] Yeah.
[00:30:41] Now, staying in that same vein of going with indie properties that something that's a little
[00:30:47] bit more of a step up because it's of the nature of what it was.
[00:30:51] Yeah.
[00:30:51] For those of you guys out there again, we're talking about these indie properties that
[00:30:56] are based on bigger things.
[00:30:58] How many of you guys have seen Street Fighter Assassin's Fist?
[00:31:03] You've seen it?
[00:31:04] So if you guys haven't seen Street Fighter Assassin's Fist, again, go to YouTube.
[00:31:09] It was made by Machinima.
[00:31:12] And it is the only version of Street Fighter, live action Street Fighter that's worth watching.
[00:31:20] Again, to give you guys some background on it.
[00:31:22] Have you seen the Jean-Claude Van Damme movie?
[00:31:24] Okay.
[00:31:25] But I mean, just to give you guys a little bit of background.
[00:31:28] If you guys don't know who Joey Anza is, Joey Anza is another action actor.
[00:31:32] He was in the Bourne Identity films and other things like that.
[00:31:36] He was a huge Street Fighter fan.
[00:31:40] He took...
[00:31:41] He basically studied the Street Fighter games and made martial arts based on the character
[00:31:48] movements from the games so that the fights on screen would look like fights from the game.
[00:31:54] They are true to life, amazing.
[00:31:56] The first one I'm talking about, again, Joey Anza produced and also played Akuma in that.
[00:32:02] He...
[00:32:03] With that, they...
[00:32:05] The success of that on YouTube did a second series called Street Fighter Resurrection.
[00:32:11] And that leads us to...
[00:32:13] David played Agent Cole.
[00:32:15] Yes.
[00:32:16] I played...
[00:32:16] On Street Fighter Resurrection, which this one gets more into...
[00:32:20] More like the Street Fighter 5 characters.
[00:32:23] Yeah.
[00:32:24] And it's, again, arguably the only live action Street Fighter film that was done right.
[00:32:28] Or properly.
[00:32:29] That was years ago.
[00:32:31] Yeah.
[00:32:32] So what was it like preparing for that?
[00:32:34] And just kind of like, again, preparing for like the specific requirements for the martial arts within that movement?
[00:32:40] So I knew I was going to be up against like the best of the best in the industry.
[00:32:45] Like the best fighters.
[00:32:45] Because Joey Anza is like a legend, you know, in like the stunt acting and performing and fight choreography.
[00:32:56] He fights like Matt Damon in the Bourne, like the Bourne Identity franchise.
[00:33:03] And he was the choreographer as well.
[00:33:05] So I knew that I had to up my game.
[00:33:08] I had to make sure I'm prepared for anything that he throws at me.
[00:33:13] So...
[00:33:14] Yeah, I just, you know, it was another day in the office for me.
[00:33:18] Hit the gym, you know, eat, sleep, train.
[00:33:22] And just watch, I had to watch, well, I was always a Street Fighter fan anyways.
[00:33:26] Like I used to play the games.
[00:33:27] I had like the joystick and all that, like the Street Fighter joysticks.
[00:33:32] And I was super excited to get the role.
[00:33:35] I was super excited.
[00:33:36] And my character, you know, is a secret agent.
[00:33:39] He comes out with guns and then he basically gets beaten up.
[00:33:45] And, yeah, it was good.
[00:33:47] It was tough, but it was good.
[00:33:50] And I would love to do it again.
[00:33:52] I would love to be back.
[00:33:53] I mean, I think Joey Anza should get a chance to actually direct like an actual movie based on just the stuff that he's done so far.
[00:34:00] Yeah, yeah, he's really talented.
[00:34:01] He's got a lot of good ideas.
[00:34:04] And he's a fan, you know.
[00:34:05] He's another fan filmed made by fans.
[00:34:09] And tend to do it quite right.
[00:34:11] Right.
[00:34:12] It's definitely a more bigger budget fan film because it looks like it's got very movie quality.
[00:34:17] Again, guys, if you haven't seen Assassin's Fist, it's on, it was on Hulu for a while, but check that out.
[00:34:23] You would never be able to tell that it was a fan film.
[00:34:26] Yes, it's really, really well done.
[00:34:30] All right. Sorry.
[00:34:31] I got too busy listening.
[00:34:32] What would be a dream role in any franchise that you'd want to be in?
[00:34:41] I mean, whether it's in Star Wars or Marvel or DC or Harry Potter, because you've been in all those and James Bond.
[00:34:49] Like what's something you want to get into?
[00:34:51] Yeah, I would love to be like a Jedi.
[00:34:53] A Jedi?
[00:34:54] A Jedi.
[00:34:54] Yeah, yeah, yeah.
[00:34:55] I would love to be cast as a Jedi.
[00:34:57] Because I've been practicing swords like from a really young age, you know.
[00:35:01] And I'll just, yeah, I would just love to like...
[00:35:05] Oh, dude, if they did, if they start doing stuff in like the old Republic era, I could see you just like being a Jedi.
[00:35:12] Because if you follow that kind of stuff, the Jedi, there's more Jedi and at that time more Sith.
[00:35:18] And the fights in that era that we've seen so far were way more intense than the stuff we've seen on screen.
[00:35:24] Dude, that would be dope to see you like as one of those Jedi.
[00:35:27] Yeah, if they don't cast me, I'm going to have to make my own Jedi film.
[00:35:30] Make my own fan made...
[00:35:34] Hey, it worked for Ahmed Best, right?
[00:35:37] Yeah, yeah.
[00:35:37] Jar Jar Binks decided like, hey, I'm going to take a role, take a Jedi, put a backstory behind it and next thing you know, he's in Mandalorian.
[00:35:46] Yeah, you've got to create your own stuff, you know.
[00:35:49] You've got to create your own stuff.
[00:35:51] We've got to make you a fan film, man.
[00:35:53] That's what we've got to do.
[00:35:53] Just make you a Star Wars fan film.
[00:35:55] Let's do it. Let's do it.
[00:35:56] I'm ready. I'm ready.
[00:35:57] I've been preparing my whole life for this.
[00:36:00] There we go.
[00:36:02] So what would be the worst movie sequel ever made?
[00:36:07] Now, when I ask this question, not like, you know, what movie has already been made that's a bad sequel.
[00:36:12] Like a movie that's already there.
[00:36:14] That's like, we don't need the sequel at all.
[00:36:17] The worst movie?
[00:36:18] Worst movie sequel.
[00:36:20] Yeah.
[00:36:21] Yeah.
[00:36:21] Um, I'll come back to you on that one.
[00:36:26] Let me think about that one.
[00:36:27] Yeah.
[00:36:28] Um, so then if we're going to move on to that.
[00:36:30] So if you were on a 10 hour flight.
[00:36:33] Yeah.
[00:36:33] Who would you like to sit next to dead or alive?
[00:36:36] Doesn't matter who it is.
[00:36:37] Like who's somebody you would want to have a 10 hour conversation with?
[00:36:43] Um, Leonardo DiCaprio.
[00:36:45] Leonardo DiCaprio?
[00:36:47] Yeah.
[00:36:47] How are you 50 and you get 20 year old girls?
[00:36:50] How does that a thing just?
[00:36:53] No, I just want to like ask him, you know, like, how are you so good?
[00:36:59] Yeah.
[00:37:00] The guy's good.
[00:37:01] He's good at what he does.
[00:37:03] Yeah.
[00:37:03] He's good at what he does.
[00:37:04] Yeah.
[00:37:05] Like jokes aside, he is an amazing actor.
[00:37:07] Yeah.
[00:37:08] He takes on his, his new depth, you know?
[00:37:11] Yeah.
[00:37:12] Again.
[00:37:12] I mean, you work with Johnny Depp.
[00:37:14] It's another guy that's like that.
[00:37:15] Yeah.
[00:37:16] He's amazing.
[00:37:17] All right.
[00:37:18] Again, if you got fan questions, come on up.
[00:37:21] We'll get you a microphone in a second.
[00:37:23] Um, again, we don't want to break any kind of NBAs.
[00:37:27] So, uh, just bring up your question.
[00:37:29] We'll figure it out.
[00:37:30] Um, that being said, what are you nerding out on these days?
[00:37:36] Um, sleep.
[00:37:38] Sleep.
[00:37:40] I don't get much sleep nowadays.
[00:37:43] Um, just cause like so many projects going on and yeah, stuff.
[00:37:50] No comment.
[00:37:51] Like NDA, NDA stuff.
[00:37:53] We didn't talk about that last night.
[00:37:55] You've been like, go, go, go.
[00:37:57] Yeah.
[00:37:57] Yeah.
[00:37:58] Well, if you, if you know the community, man, like, uh, rest is just as important as, uh,
[00:38:03] as the training itself.
[00:38:04] Yeah.
[00:38:05] That's it.
[00:38:06] You know, I'm preparing for something big as always.
[00:38:10] Yeah.
[00:38:10] So I'm in the gym, you know, yesterday when I came, came out of, um, the event, I went
[00:38:17] straight to the gym.
[00:38:18] I was like, let's get it done.
[00:38:21] And then did my, you know, had a, had a tape to do, you know, um, had to learn lines and
[00:38:28] stuff like that.
[00:38:29] Right.
[00:38:30] But yeah, we'll find out later.
[00:38:33] Yeah.
[00:38:33] No comment.
[00:38:35] And then the stuff that we already know I'm, I'm excited for.
[00:38:37] So thank you.
[00:38:38] Thank you.
[00:38:38] Me too.
[00:38:39] Yeah.
[00:38:40] It's exciting.
[00:38:40] Exciting stuff.
[00:38:42] I don't know, man.
[00:38:43] We're staying at the same hotel.
[00:38:44] I didn't see you in the gym.
[00:38:47] I didn't see you in the gym.
[00:38:48] To be fair, you were in the gym.
[00:38:49] Oh yeah.
[00:38:49] That's right.
[00:38:50] I was not in the gym.
[00:38:50] Which gym was you at?
[00:38:53] He's like, I didn't see you in the gym where you have to be looking at the gym to know
[00:38:57] what's going on in the gym.
[00:38:59] All right.
[00:38:59] All right.
[00:39:00] That being said, uh, what's your favorite taco?
[00:39:02] Do you have tacos in London?
[00:39:05] Um, we do.
[00:39:06] We do.
[00:39:07] We do.
[00:39:07] I like the sweet potato taco.
[00:39:10] That's a thing?
[00:39:11] Yeah.
[00:39:12] The sweet, um, the sweet potato with the cheese.
[00:39:15] Sweet potato with cheese.
[00:39:17] Or anything with avocado.
[00:39:19] Anything with avocado.
[00:39:21] Gotcha.
[00:39:21] Remember, I'm Hispanic, so sweet potato with cheese is not something that we're used to.
[00:39:26] Uh oh, what we got?
[00:39:28] Special guest.
[00:39:29] Oh wow.
[00:39:29] Come on up.
[00:39:30] Amazing.
[00:39:30] Welcome Dave.
[00:39:32] What if, uh, you think of a question.
[00:39:37] Later on the podcast, these guys are going to think of a Star Wars question.
[00:39:41] And if one of you guys know the answer, it's gonna be an and or question or something.
[00:39:46] You should probably get the question.
[00:39:48] But whoever gets the answer gets that free Black Series 40th anniversary Boba Fett right
[00:39:53] there.
[00:39:54] Yup.
[00:39:54] Woo.
