Browncoats, this one’s for you!
We headed straight into the Verse at Gem State Comic Con 2026 to sit down with three members of Serenity’s legendary crew: Sean Maher (Simon Tam), Jewel Staite (Kaylee Frye), and Adam Baldwin (Jayne Cobb)!
From behind-the-scenes stories and hilarious set memories to stolen props, mysterious hotel strawberries, Jayne’s famous hat, and why Firefly still inspires one of the most passionate fandoms in science fiction, this conversation is packed tighter than a smuggling compartment on Persephone.
Along the way we learn that Adam Baldwin collected enough props to start his own Firefly museum, Sean Maher was apparently the only adult in the room, and Jewel Staite may have accidentally taught an entire audience that stealing props is part of an actor’s compensation package.
Whether you’re a lifelong Browncoat or discovering Firefly for the first time, you’ll find plenty of laughs, nostalgia, and stories from aboard Serenity.
You can’t take the sky from us.

[00:00:00] Nerds, grab your brown coats, start a course for the outer rim, and make sure Serenity is fueled up. Because today we're heading straight into the verse for a very special... A Comic Conversation! We have the absolute honor of sitting down with three members of the legendary Firefly Crew. Sean Maher, the brilliant Dr. Simon Tam, Dual State, everyone's favorite mechanic Kaylee Fry, and Adam Baldwin, the hero of Canton himself, Jane Cobb.
[00:00:28] We talk about the lasting legacy of Firefly, their memories from a bored Serenity, meaning generations of passionate brown coats, and what makes a little sci-fi series continue to capture hearts more than 20 years later. So grab an orange, avoid any dealings with the Alliance, and try not to find yourself on the wrong side of a Reavership. You can't take the sky from me. It's time for another... A Comic Conversation!
[00:00:56] Okay, I think... I feel a presence. A presence in the Force. No. I feel... I'm waiting for a sign. Wrong fandom! Yeah, I know, right? Holy fans! Don't they all cross over at some point? I think they do. I know, right? Right? I'm waiting for a sign. As soon as I see somebody from staff, like, give me a thumbs up, and it's like, Alright, cool. I'm gonna do introductions. Phil... Phil... Huh? This is your sign. They're ready. They're ready.
[00:01:24] Alright, ladies and gentlemen, let's get this done. And... Brown... Grab your rations and secure the cargo.
[00:01:44] First up, the heart of the ship, the only mechanic who can keep the Firefly shiny, and with nothing but optimism and duct tape, Kaylee herself. Put your hands together.
[00:01:56] First up, we got the doctor who survived the Alliance, the Reavers, and being prettier than the captain himself.
[00:02:23] The brilliant and perpetually stressed out Simon Tam. Put your hands together for Sean Mayer! You guys... Are you... Are you... Oh, well, come on. No, because... One of us went that way?
[00:03:19] Which mic? You... You missed your intro. What? It's fine.
[00:03:49] ...that made us laugh, cry, and swear by our pretty floor bonnets that this show deserved more seasons. Welcome to the cast one more time! Firefly, ladies and gentlemen! I brought you here for an intervention. Okay! Me? Cool! Okay. No. There. It's my intervention. Can you hear us? Hear us okay? Yeah?
[00:04:18] Not really? A little bit? I'll shut it down! Gotta crank that mic! So, junior... Where's the doll from? Oh, that's my doll. It's Creepy Baby. How much can I buy it? You... You wanna buy... I would like to buy your doll. Wow, James didn't want her on stage and now... And... Oh, yeah. No, I've been... You biffed it. Yeah? Okay. I've been... We'll talk about it off stage, okay? Yeah, Mary.
[00:04:48] I've been collecting dolls. It's like what I do... Oh! ...everywhere antique... Anywhere I can find them and then that's our Halloween decoration. Oh! So we put lots of creepy dolls in the, like, front porch and the front yard. Okay. He's really making a good argument for the doll. Yeah. I might give the doll... And you'd be amazed at how many children get scared of the dolls. Yeah. Yeah. Oh, are the mics too low? Yes. Are the mics too low? Okay. Or am I mumbling? You can't hear... No! You can't hear my voice? Oh, wow.
[00:05:18] I can't hear him. I'll try to speak up then. Hi, Boise. You're awesome. What a great town. I walked around a little bit. It's beautiful. It's so cute. Yeah. We love it here. I did a little shop. We did a little... We did a little shop, right? Got some cute... Got a cute bracelet. Got a pendant. Got a dress. Oh, wow. I might be wearing a new t-shirt. A new t-shirt. Oh, here we go. All right.
[00:05:47] So let's all rewind. Nothing for you. Before Serenity took flight, what were you guys told about your characters before? Like, did you guys get a good brief or did they just say, come and play these people? I created Jane just on the go. I think... Who's the guy that... The writer, the creator, yeah, Joss. Who's the guy? He had a...
[00:06:18] He just sort of had an idea about some gruff guy in a silly hat. And I was like, oh, I can do that. I remember in the read-through, I did that voice and Nathan was like, wait, he's not gonna do it that way, is he? I don't know. That's sort of my routine is I'll go overboard and make them pull me back. And that can be useful in the creative process. Very much so. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.
[00:06:47] And, but you know, you gotta dare to be bad. And I was bad in many takes. And... Yeah, the director would sheepishly come up and go, could you just not do that? It's really distracting. You're killing me on time. It was always with the props with you. Yeah, I was busy. I gotta stay busy with stuff. But he taught me, you taught me a very valuable lesson. He said,
[00:07:17] ask for a prop and then always make sure that you're busy doing something. Even if you have nothing to say in the scene because you can't help but notice the actor doing something in the back and the editor has no choice but to cut to you. Yeah. More screen time. Yeah. It works. Yeah. I think Nathan was the one Nathan was the one that coined me as a scene stealing son of a bitch. Very much so. Scene stealing.
[00:07:46] And then I got so annoying with you touching fucking everything. I need to feel. Yes. I wanna feel you come to me. Yeah. So that's my story. Wow. Wow. So Jewel, John, did you guys hear anything about? They were pretty well fleshed out, right? I mean, I feel like the characters were, they were already there on the page.
[00:08:15] So I certainly didn't have to do very much to prepare for the role as some actors do. I'm not one of those actors. It was a joy to have a character that was so well written to begin with. So I just feel I got very lucky. Did you, was, was the strawberry idea your idea? No. No, no, no, no, no, no, no.
[00:08:44] Everyone's like, oh, do you love strawberries? They're fine. More of a raspberry girl. I'm a cheeseburger girl. Do you think about, you know, just, just visualize the strawberry as a juicy cheeseburger? So we want to ask a question. Did anyone in here request a plate of strawberries for Jewel to have when she checked into the hotel yesterday? Oh yeah, I forgot to tell you that. Oh no.
[00:09:14] I didn't, I didn't tell Adam that story. Cause that wasn't creepy at all. Oh, okay. So we, yeah, yeah. So we got, we got to the hotel. I'm so sorry. I apologize for that. And, and they're very lovely at, at the check-in desk. And then the, the guy checking me in was like, do you still want that platter of strawberries delivered to your room? And I was like, excuse me, sir. And he's like, there's a special request on your room.
[00:09:42] I'm like, that request is not from me, darling. And he's like, oh, oh. And he like went really red. And he was like, I don't know what, I don't know what happened there. So we figure someone called it in as a request. Where are they? Where are these strawberries? Well, I said no, Adam. I said no. So they just got rid of them? She said, I, we will cancel the request. Oh, I didn't, I ate them. There you go.
[00:10:11] That would have been in season two. Jane enjoying the strawberries. I'm a strawberry guy. What can I say? Now we know it was Adam. Adam did it. Adam requested it and then forgot. And then it got canceled. There we go. I like strawberries, but I'm not creepy. So, uh, Jewel, let's stay with you for just a second. I'm gonna let Sean tell his story.
[00:10:39] Uh, so Kaylee became one of the most beloved sci-fi characters, sci-fi characters ever. Oh, that's very nice. Thank you. Well, you're welcome. That's very nice. So did you know immediately that she, that how special she was? No. All right. So check that off now. Yeah, no. I mean, I don't think any of us really had a, uh, any inkling as to what this would turn into.
[00:11:06] We were, we were hoping that we would get more seasons than we did. Um, just based on the, the Weed and Verse track record. We thought we were in it for the long haul. Um, but I, I don't think any of us really understood. I mean, we all, we all loved each other right away. And, and we, we knew that it was lightning in a bottle in terms of all the right things being there from the very beginning. The chemistry was there. The writing was there. It felt special. Mm-hmm. Just felt like something, something special.
[00:11:35] Um, but we didn't, we were told no one was watching the show, which, you know, our ratings were terrible. You had to get a... Oh, lies. Lies, lies. Um, so when we did our first convention, I think that's when we all started to get a clue that, oh, this is a thing. And people have connected with this. And, and of course you hope for that, but it continues to surprise me certainly that we go to these conventions,
[00:12:01] y'all are still showing up in the jumpsuits and the Jane hats and the, it's really, it really means a lot that, um, you still care. Cause we care. All right. So Sean, let's talk about Simon. Ha ha ha ha. Let's talk about Simon for a second. Let's.
[00:12:28] So Simon starts the show. Well, first of all, your entrance was probably one of the best entrances I think I've seen. I rewatched it. My son wants to watch Firefly. So we're watching it together. Oh. And, um, the moment that the camera just pans to you and you're in those glasses and you just take them off. I was like, that man is James Bond. Ha ha ha ha. Ha ha ha ha.
[00:12:55] So you start out incredibly serious and controlled, right? So, but then you slowly start like leaning into and embracing your chaos, which matches the, the, the ship and Mal. Yeah. Uh, but what would, I mean, what was that evolution like for you? I think that was, Joss will talk about that. That was sort of, I think that was kind of just how it was going.
[00:13:20] Like I sort of just became able one in the storm of all the fucking crazies around me. Especially my sister. Ha ha ha. Um, and I think just sort of, I, I, I think just the contrast of that, I think Joss loved it. And it was sort of kind of what was happening on, kind of on the side, like reading the New York Times and all the crazy was happening over here. And I, you know, um, I don't know. Sean was the adult in the room is basically.
[00:13:50] Ha ha ha ha. How, I mean, how was it when? Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha. Is it thinking about that title currently? Ha ha ha ha. Yes. Always. How was it to, to do the scenes with Adam? Adam, how are you and Sean? You guys had some good scenes together. It was a quite a, uh, juxtaposition for your characters. Like fricking freck, you know, it's like, uh, polar opposites.
[00:14:15] I, you know, I felt the way I would play Jane in, in terms of Simon would be, you're useful why? Why are you useful to us? And, uh, just couldn't quite figure that out yet. And how can I make a buck off of this guy? Boy, is he annoying. Stop being so smart. Um. But secretly you had a crush on me. Yeah. No. Ha ha ha ha. Hmm. No. No.
[00:14:44] No. Some fanfic there. No, no. Well. Fantasize all you like. I was, uh, I was after a Nara. Ah, there you go. Ah, there you go. And I say that to annoy Morena. Ha ha ha. And it, and it doesn't. What's happening with that now, too?
[00:15:11] I think we've just really fueled the Firefly fandom for at least another 20 years. Ha ha ha. With that. All right. Well, there is a rumor there might be something in the works. I mean, we can talk about that if you want. We cannot. Ha ha ha ha. These are just rumors. Anything we hear from Nathan, that'll be the first inclination. Yes.
[00:15:41] He's our leader. Ha ha ha. So, speaking of Jane. Oh. Ha ha ha ha. Ha ha ha. Uh, he might be one of the most gloriously unpredictable characters in sci-fi. Hmm. He likes big guns. Right. And he cannot lie. Ha ha ha. Ha ha ha. And his mother. So, uh, what do you think his dating profile would be? And his profile picture if he were to date. Jane's.
[00:16:10] Dating profile picture. Yeah, let's say Jane goes on Tinder. Like Jane's on Tinder profile? God, I've been married 40 years. I don't even know what that means. Okay. You know, I was voted up, and it's nothing. No big deal. It's just Tim Minear used to give me a lot of crap about it.
[00:16:36] I was voted sexiest newcomer when I was 40 years old for that show. Just because I had this cool picture that a good photographer took of me, and they put it up there, and some people voted. So, I'm still trying to live that down. Ha ha ha. Newcomer. And I started at age 17, and here I am at 40. Newcomer. It's like, hmm, okay. I stole that from somebody.
[00:17:05] Somebody got cheated out of that newcomer thing. Might have been you. Ha ha. I remember that. Yeah, I remember that too. Yeah. I think he's been slighted this whole time he's felt it. It's crazy. No, they just kept making fun of me for it. Newcomer. Old man more like, you know. So, the Jane hat. Yeah. We got to talk about the Jane hat. I have one at home. Yeah.
[00:17:32] My husband actually got, I married him in that Jane hat by the way. Like at your wedding? Yes. Wow. So, I planned a surprise wedding for him. Okay. And he, it was at Halloween. And so, he was dressed as Jane, and I was dressed as Wonder Woman, but not the Wonder Woman outfit. And we got married by the Pope. Wow. Yeah. It was fantastic. Those are probably some pretty interesting wedding photos.
[00:18:01] If you'd like, I'll show them to you later. Okay. I still have them, yes. And. Wow. The Pope. It was a friend of ours who dressed up as the Pope. It was a costume wedding. Everybody came in costume. Oh my God. The real Pope? Not the real Pope, Sean. Holy smokes. No. Sometimes people think I'm blonde. You're so pretty. I did invite Alan to the wedding, by the way. Alan Tudyk. I did invite him to the wedding. Did you? He was in town, and he declined. Ah. Oh. I see.
[00:18:30] I didn't know if you all would be in town. I would have invited you as well. Thank you. So, yes. Before Alan, right? Yeah. It was just Alan, yeah. We'd be first. You would be first. Yes. Oh no, I won't invite Alan again. Okay. All right. So, back to the questions. So, the hat. So, how did the hat happen? Like, that's really honestly, I mean, was it part of the show or was it a...
[00:18:56] These writers rooms, you know, they get in there and they're like, whoa, Jane got a hat from his mom. Yeah, right, dad. What color is it? I don't know. That color. That color. That color. And, yeah. So, they went around and they, the lady, one of the ladies in the production office knew how to knit.
[00:19:20] And so, she built two of them and I kept one afterwards and auctioned and she kept the other one, I guess. Or it ended up, it's probably some sitting in some box in the costume department at Fox. Wow. I don't know. So, when you put it on, did you think, oh, this is going to be the defining thing of my character? Not the guns. The hat. I had an argument with Tim Minear who directed that episode. I said, I want to wear that hat the whole time. Once I get it, I'm putting it on and not taking it off until...
[00:19:50] He's like, nah, it's going to be distracting. I don't want to... I said, well, let me try to sell you on this. I will take it off at the end when I get the character's name moving. Tracy. Yeah, when Tracy was doing his funeral, that's when I... It's great. Tim was like, that can work. Okay. It was one of the few times that I got to actually feel like a writer on that show. I was like, oh, I came up with a good idea. Yay.
[00:20:17] Because anytime you can impress either Tim or Joss, they had a great staff of writers. If you asked them with an idea, you're paying attention to what they were doing. I don't have a show without the writers. We had a great group. That's true. There was a strike about that recently, right? There was. Yeah. Okay. So let's go to Kaylee. Because we got Jane's hat. Kaylee has a very unique relationship with the ship. Yes.
[00:20:45] We might call it an entanglement now. But she did. So how... Did you go in and really understand the ship? Did you know all the hiding places or did you just... No. No? She didn't know any of it. Okay. No. I mean, like Adam said, we had a very good group of writers who told really amazing stories.
[00:21:11] And I think very little came from us. Okay. I understood it as Kaylee's passion was jeans and engines and she... And Simon. And Simon. And Simon. She was really good at it. And took a liking to Serenity because she was...
[00:21:37] She bit rough around the edges and needed extra love. Yeah. Would you say she's like a... Would she have been like a classic car girl? Knew how to fix everything? Oh, yes. Yeah. Of course. Of course she would have. Yeah. Awesome. Awesome. So did you? I think it was just so cool that you... Like, what are you doing out here? Yeah. And you're really good at it. So... Good. Good. It was cool. Yeah.
[00:22:06] It was very empowering. I think there was a lot of... Very much so. But she was also so girly. And there was no shame in that. Right? She just... She wore her heart on her sleeve and she had so much... So many different facets to her personality. And there was no shame. There was no embarrassment really with Kaylee. She just was who she was. And I admire that very much. She's quite a catch.
[00:22:40] Okay, Sean. How much fake medical dialogue did you have to learn? A lot. Well, you know, I had to be the good. Some of it wasn't even... You couldn't find it anywhere. So a lot of it was sort of space bargain. But there was... I think the toughest thing I had to do was the sutures. And we had somebody on set who would help me.
[00:23:10] So I was suturing like soft leather. So it was like... It was just so hard. So asked in crisis when someone's bleeding. And... Yeah, but the jargon itself wasn't... It was all made up. It didn't really have to do... I don't know. Like getting it right. So it was more about the essence of Simon than it was about the words themselves. Say it confidently and nobody will... I know like the Chinese.
[00:23:39] Which I didn't get like hardly any of. Do you want to say some of the words just so you can say you said them? Okay, ready? Sean Ma. Oh, look at that. There we go. What does it sound like? Sean Ma. That was my only Chinese. And Mei Mei, which... Mei Mei. Mei Mei. You get any Chinese to have to say? Yeah. He said Gorham like every other word, right? Yeah, but... You didn't have to memorize too much of it. Is it Xi Now? Oh. Is that it?
[00:24:08] You said... Yeah, I think you did say that. Yeah. Yeah, that was one of the things. It's like the science dialect or jargon. I think Joss' technical term was, we're just gonna make it sound science-y. Yeah. And so, you know, we did have another person who worked in the production office who spoke Chinese and would give us tips on pronunciation. She would give us... The tapes.
[00:24:38] They're called cassette tapes. Yeah. Yeah. The tapes. Remember those? Yeah. Remember those. And you would have to listen to them. Or say over and over again. Yeah. And try and get the cadence right. And it was so hard. Yeah, I think they... I think they... They punished Alan and Nathan the most. Alan got it the worst. And Marina. But Marina was very good at it. Yeah. Of course she was. Of course she was. Okay, she was.
[00:25:10] Um... Nathan was really good at it too. Alan not so much. Oh my God. The best days on set were when Alan had a ton of... And his level of frustration... Oh, so frustrated. It was so entertaining. It was like... We were like, oh, Alan speaks Chinese today. Grab the popcorn. Let's go. Yeah, let's see this one. Mr. Juilliard.
[00:25:40] I remember he had... He had a speech. It's in the movie. Um... In that first shot that goes all the way through the ship. And he had to say that one thing like, if we don't set the... Da da da. And he didn't want to mess it up because if you were the one to mess up this huge long... One-er. Back to one. That's what we call back to one, right? And we'd all be like, who did it? Who messed up? He's like, it's not gonna be me. So he taped the line on the console. Watch. Watch the movie back. He goes like this. If we don't...
[00:26:10] Da da da da da da da da da da. What? You go watch it. And I remember he said to me, he was like, stop telling that story. It can't. And I was like, no. Hey, Brando did it. It's good enough for Brando. It's good enough for Alan. Mr. G. And he's not here. We can say whatever we want. That's what happens when you cancel. Yeah. Yeah.
[00:26:42] Well, I feel bad about asking this question now. Has nothing to do with Alan. So I was gonna say, was there a prop? That you wanted to steal from the engine room or anything? Did you just want the whole ship? Well... Can you tell me, we spent a lot of time together. I wanted the compression coil. The catalyzer from the poor compression coil. The busted one. And I was like, oh, I wonder what happened to that. And then I found it.
[00:27:12] Guess what it was? Nathan's. Nathan's. Yes. Oh. Had to be at Nathan's. He has everything. Did you take stuff? Oh, yeah. Okay. I feel like everybody took stuff except me. And me. And you. And Gina too, right? Yeah, because we were taught not to steal. Right. Newcomer at 40 knew what to do. What did you... Did you take that?
[00:27:39] Did you take the Janestown head? The statue's head? I did. I did. I got in a lot of trouble for that, but I did it anyway. What are you gonna do? Yeah. That's what I learned from you guys. I got my knife. I didn't get the firearms. Those were a little trickier and more expensive. But the knife and the boots and the gloves and the jacket and... Really?
[00:28:09] There was a mug or two that I got, the Mudder's milk mugs and bottles of Mudder's milk and yeah. Just in case we came back and did a movie, I thought I'd grab some of that stuff. So I was able to... We should have just taken stuff. We didn't. I know. Well, that's what I learned from you guys. You know, I was the youngest person in the cast. I was only 19. Yes, Summer's older than me. I know. Wow. I remind her every day.
[00:28:40] And that's one of the things I learned from you guys is to steal. No. No. It's... Because I do that now. It's like a bonus pay. Yeah. It's not really like stealing. It's just weird. Yeah, you were like, apologize later. Yeah. If you need to. Yeah. But that's what I do now. I just take stuff from the sets I work on because they can't really do anything about it. And that's the only way you get things is by stealing, kids. Yes.
[00:29:10] That's what you learned at the Firefly panel. There you go. Fevery. I mean, it's on brand. Crime. Yeah, crime. They do crimes. It's on brand. It felt like it was our property. We breathed life into it. We deserve to hang onto it in case there's a movie. Totes. Literally your blood, sweat and tears were on it, right? Literally your head. Yeah. Literally my freaking head. Along to you.
[00:29:36] All right, let's open this up to our wonderful brown coats that joined us today. Anybody have any questions? Oh wow, his hand will. We already got questions here. All right, what was your name? Jeff. Jeff, what's your question? If you could play any other character in the cast, who would it be and why is it Mal? Exactly. I'm Nathan Fillion. Yeah, the captain, obviously. Anara. Yeah.
[00:30:05] She did have a really good wardrobe. She really did. I would want to play book because of his knowledge and voice and wisdom and he was, you know, the dearly departed Ron Glass. What a wonderful man he was. Yes, he was. I felt he was really the anchor. Even though Nathan was the lead and as they say, you know, crap rolls downhill, it didn't happen. I think it was a great thing. I've worked on other shows where if number one on the call sheet is a good guy and prepared
[00:30:34] and talented and fun, which Nathan is and always was, that it imbued the whole cast, our department, with that joy to bring work. Yes. And still Ron's experience and just who he was as a person was, again, this anchor for all of us. That's what a real pro is. Yeah. Yeah. We aspire to that. That was amazing.
[00:31:05] What was your name? Maggie. All right. Just which episode do you- Out of gas. Oh, we talked about that earlier. Yeah. That episode gets me bad. Still gets me. There's a few lines in there that put a lump in my throat. When Mal says, everybody dies alone. And he says it so matter of factly to her, it's okay. Everybody dies alone. And then at the end when he says, y'all are going to be here when I wake up.
[00:31:35] Oof, got me right now. I'm tearing up right now too. I love that episode. So good. Armises Reynolds is pretty special to me. Just, I mean, the Saffron character was really cool and interesting and a fun way to play Jane off of unattainable. But the bits with Nathan at the wedding is just when we're getting a little loopy. It's just so much fun.
[00:32:01] He's just so, when Nathan is unleashed to play, he's just so much fun to play with because he just goes all out and blast. And I liked when we would go out and work in the outside and the dirt and the heat. Fortunately, my character wasn't as buttoned up. I wouldn't want to be in a suit like out in the heat and the dirt. I got to be in kind of fatigue. I can be sweaty and gross anyway. Perfect.
[00:32:27] But if you've worked in a suit in hot lights, it's not that pleasant. Ah, everything. And I'm a sweater. New shirt, please. I have a fan. There's so many different faves for so many different reasons, right? And I think just, I would say Jane's Town for me sitting here with you two. And what you just said about getting dirty, getting off the ship.
[00:32:52] That was like the first time I left the ship and got to go and play in mud. So stupid. But, and I think our tipsy scene was a lot of fun for me. And I think just like, I don't know, that was, so in regards to, you know, as a team, as a cast, as a collaboration, but then out of gas, as a reflection, I think will make me very impressed. Awesome.
[00:33:23] All right. What was your name? I'm Isabella. Um, I just... Hi, Ella. Speaking of favorite, uh, crime. Good one. Very good. Very good. I mean, there's so many goodies. I always ask you to say my favorite line. Read the room. Going on a year now, I ain't had nothing. Twix my netters were a rock-off battery. Your favorite.
[00:33:53] And I know that was Shawn's favorite line. I like, um, they have boy whores. How thoughtful. Fanfic is weird.
[00:34:21] Um, someone came up to me earlier today when we were signing some pictures and I remember it exactly. I remember it. But, what? I saw it on the... Oh yeah, don't tell them. Someone came up and I went, oh, and I saw it and was like, oh my god, I forgot. When we're in the airlock scene in Ariel, and I'm about to get spaced, at this point, I wasn't sure I was going to be on the show anymore. So, uh, I had to make sure. Actually, maybe they'd already made the decision to keep me.
[00:34:47] But, um, that was why I worked so hard in the early goings. Like, oh, I gotta make him love this character quick. Otherwise, I could... Oh! That other big guy. But the line was in the airlock when, uh, Jane says to Mal, you know, don't tell him what I did. Yeah. You know, I'm gonna tell him. That was one of the most... Uh, and I... I cheated. I had cheat sheets of lines because I... Well, I couldn't hear on the other side because it was blowing and the fan was so... I couldn't hear what he was saying.
[00:35:16] So, I would just have to wait for him to pause and then be like, okay, this... And it helped me track where the scene was. So, you know, a lot of great actors do that. Um... So, um... Because it's really... That's right, even Juilliard. But, uh... But, you know, every other... Every other person on the show has... They got a clipboard. They got a notebook. They can have notes. Why can't the actors have notes, too? It's just a reference point.
[00:35:46] You have to know what you're doing. You have to know what the story is. But in the technicality of everything that's going on, I get distracted a lot. Some people, like Nathan, for instance, have photographic memories. They will... Then they'll cue you right to your face in front of everybody. It's like, I know I'm... He knows everyone else's lines, too. It's so annoying. Yeah. But it's great to have him as the captain because he leads you to that place where I really have to work hard because I'm up with that guy. Did you...
[00:36:15] Do you remember that moment in the bloopers from Serenity when he and Marina are in that scene together and she's supposed to be, like, setting up the trap for the operative. She's, like, setting up the bomb or whatever. The insane scene. And she forgot to do it in the take. And he looks at her and he's supposed to say, what are you doing? But he looked at her and he went, what aren't you doing? And she forgot and she's like, oh! Shoot! That's so naked. That's so naked. So good.
[00:36:44] Hi, I'm Cameron. Nice to meet you all. But on the episode, The Train Job after Jane gets hit on the train after stealing the goods, how was it talking about the chain of command and just passing out on set and having Kaylee go, Nope, dip. Well, I was trying to... You mean fireflies? No. No. And I was sort of an homage to Peter Boyle from Young Frankenstein.
[00:37:14] Oh! Oh! You know? I can mimic the good borrow, the great steal. Enough for maybe one more question. Anybody want to go for it here? Oh! Hey, my name is Rick.
[00:37:41] So, who do you guys think would be the voice for Book in the new series? Don't say A.I. Oh, wow. Don't say A.I. Ooh! I'm glad we're ending on that question. Oh my God. I don't know. I'll do it. I think that's the correct answer. Yeah. I haven't even...
[00:38:09] I mean, I don't think any of us have thought about it because we don't want to have to think about it. He had such a beautiful, unique... Oh, that voice. ...baritone-based voice. Yeah. That he could bring softness to. It was... His voice was so soft. Yeah. And even though it was so baritone, it was just so soft. Yeah. Yeah, but when he got... And he would get mad at you if you weren't doing what he was wanting you to do. He would, Adam? Oh, right.
[00:38:39] You're the anchor. I gotta remember that. He had the best sense of humor though. Oh, yeah. He had a very dark sense of humor that I miss and I loved a lot. But we'll find somebody. Find somebody good. Would it be inappropriate to model his voice from before and let AI do it? No, no, no, no. Thank you, thank you. How do you really feel? Too many actors. Too many good actors out there. That's the right answer.
[00:39:09] Yeah. Get a voice match. Just get a voice match. Yeah. Guys, we're gonna get into some wrap up questions here. Uh-oh. Just trying to get you guys where you need to go here. Oh, I'm nervous. I just got nervous. Do they gotta go? No, we can do come on. No, let's do it. What else are we here for? Other than just speak to you. We've got about three minutes. We demand five more minutes. Yeah, I said, we've got about three minutes to the end of this panel, so we can do the wrap up questions here. Okay. Adam, I've asked you this question in the past, but we haven't gotten from the rest of them here. So guys, I'm gonna ask you this. What is your favorite kind of taco? Ooh.
[00:39:38] I have to choose just one? Just one. Yeah. What's your top? Carnitas. Carnitas. Yeah, maybe like a really good steak taco with some salsa verde on there. Wait, what did we have a squash blossom? Oh, that was a quesadilla. Oh, that was a quesadilla. That was very good. Nevermind. Maybe like a little bit of poblano pepper, put that on there with some sort of like a pulled chicken. I think they're getting Mexican food for dinner tonight. Yeah. Can't choose just one. But carnitas is my number one. Carnitas.
[00:40:08] Adam. It's supposed to be rapid. Come on, rapid. Go. Shrimp. That's right. Shrimp taco? Okay. So I'm gonna ask the series here. Who wins in a fight? Jane versus a xenomorph. We don't know. I don't know who the... What's a xenomorph? What's a xenomorph? Alien. Oh, oh. Yeah, the xenomorph wins. No.
[00:40:38] And it's gonna be nasty. Yeah, very. Kaylee versus the impossible engine repair. Kaylee. Thank you. Okay. I think the audience answered that one for us. Simon versus modern insurance paperwork. Modern insurance paperwork. No! All right, guys. Real quick here. So at the end.
[00:41:05] Number one, anything you guys want to plug right now. Obviously nothing under NDA. Anything that you guys can talk about if you have any projects that you want to talk about right now. This is the moment to kind of plug out there. Outside of that. I'm not allowed to say anything about anything. Oh, wow. No. We're not allowed anymore. They really do. Yeah. Okay. No, no worries. No worries. I would like to plug something that I'm not in. Okay. Can I do that? Yeah, please. It's probably out there. You've seen it virally. It's newish.
[00:41:33] It's Eric Church's commencement address at the University of North Carolina. Check it out. Oh, okay. All right. Where can everybody follow you guys if they want to follow you on social medias and all those kind of places? Oh, Instagram, TikTok, YouTube. If you haven't seen her YouTube show where she's kind of cooking and drinking. Amateur Kitchen. Yeah. I really love to cook and I love food. So I made a channel about it. And there might be something in the works with that, but I'm also not allowed to say anything.
[00:42:04] Even though I just did. Oops. Hey, what is in this building stays in this building. Yes. Except we're filming it and it's going to be on the internet later. That's what my pin says. What happens at Comic-Con stays at Comic-Con. Oh, my gosh. There we go. Cute. Cute. All right. Well, guys, ladies and gentlemen, give it up one more time for Jewel State. Thank you. Sean Mayer.
