Go Go Matt Damon Rangers! | Chapter 290

It's morphin' time... apparently, MATT DAMON?! ⚡

Yung Phil, Jahmez and SHDU dive headfirst into another week of pop culture chaos as Marvel rumors multiply faster than Gremlins after midnight, the DCU may have found its new Wonder Woman, Vin Diesel potentially eyes the director's chair, and Matt Damon shows up looking suspiciously ready to yell, "IT'S MORPHIN' TIME!"

We break down the future of NOVA in the MCU, the surprising end of SPIDER-NOIR, Sydney Sweeney casting rumors, possible AVENGERS: DOOMSDAY cameos and Noah Jupe potentially playing an older Franklin Richards.

Over in the DCU, could Adria Arjona secretly be WONDER WOMAN? Then Matt Damon's mysterious new Daniels movie gives us major Power Rangers energy, Dave Bautista gets absolutely SHREDDED for KRATOS, Florence Pugh could enter the JAMES BOND universe as Moneypenny, and THE KANE CHRONICLES could expand Disney's Percy Jackson mythology.

We also celebrate BRUCE CAMPBELL, somehow develop a business plan involving Graveyard, roadside pizza balls and a lawsuit, and debate whether THE MANDALORIAN & GROGU belonged in theaters or on Disney+.

Because apparently the road to meeting Bruce Campbell begins with intellectual-property-infringing pizza. 🍕😂

🧠 KEY TAKEAWAYS

• The crew votes for NOVA getting room to breathe as a series rather than squeezing Richard Rider's cosmic MCU story into one movie.

• AVENGERS: DOOMSDAY rumor fatigue is real... until somebody drops another juicy Deadpool, Wolverine or Tobey Maguire rumor.

• Adria Arjona's comments aren't exactly helping convince anyone that she ISN'T the DCU's Wonder Woman.

• Matt Damon plus The Daniels plus superhero suits equals one giant "WHAT THE HELL IS THIS?!" that we absolutely want to see.

• Dave Bautista already looks Kratos-ready, and somehow he's STILL training.

• Florence Pugh could be an intriguing way to expand the James Bond universe beyond 007.

• Rick Riordan's Kane Chronicles opens the door to an even bigger shared mythology universe on Disney+.

• The Mandalorian & Grogu debate exposes a larger Hollywood problem: audiences increasingly wait for streaming unless a movie feels like a MUST-SEE theatrical event.

[00:03:59] So, ladies and gentlemen, it is time to jump into all of the news that we got going on. And starting off with all the Marvel fun, it's time for Straight from J. Jonah. Because my boy, J. Jonah Jameson has got all the stories. There we go. Shadu, you going to take this one? That's you. Oh, it's me. Okay. Then, ha. Let me get rid of that and go here. Is the MCU about to go Nova? Because I think we are, guys.

[00:04:27] Michael Waldron, who is writing the long-awaited Nova movie, recently offered a few intriguing hints about the project, including confirmation that he's thinking about a rich writer and the destruction of the Nova Corps. He wrote Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness, served as a showrunner on Loki, and is involved with Avengers Doomsday and Avengers Secret Wars. So, with all of that, with what we know so far, guys, I'm going to put this in the chat.

[00:04:56] Chat, I want you guys to let us know what your thoughts are on this. But do you guys want to know of a movie or a series? What are you guys thinking? Would you guys prefer this as a movie or as a series? I almost think a series would be better at this point. I feel like there's a lot to cover. There's a lot to kind of get through. And I think introducing new characters in series is probably better, generally, just because you have a lot more time to do setup.

[00:05:25] And we basically know nothing about, like, we've seen Xandar, obviously, in one or two of the Guardians movies. But I don't think we've done a lot of work on the Nova Corps in general. So, I think you need some setup that can't be done in a two and a half hour movie. I totally agree. Especially with Michael Waldron on board, you know, doing Loki. Think how good Loki was, you know? And he's gotten two seasons of that.

[00:05:51] Give me something like a Loki series, but with a brand new character like Nova involved in this. Plus, it's a good way to kind of call back to what we know, but we're not even thinking about right now. Like, we remember that Thanos blew up or took out the Nova Corps. But why is, I guess, they're confirming it's Richard Ryder. I guess, what's going to happen with him or what happened to him? How come he wasn't there?

[00:06:21] So, it'll be interesting to piece all that together, you know? What if there's, like, guilt involved from his point of view? So, that'd be interesting to see. Absolutely. I'm agreeing with you guys. I think a series is the best way to do this. I think that there is so much story that needs to be told. Especially because the only thing that we know about Nova, as far as for the casuals that are out there, I feel like the Nova Corps is a big kind of, like, piece to all that.

[00:06:49] But your casual fans are not going to know Nova. They're not going to know anything about. He's not one of those characters that's in the forefront like the Avengers. But he is a character that is playing in the background, especially with all of these cosmic stories that go on. He's very intrinsically tied into, you know, the Eternals and, you know, deals with the Avengers a lot.

[00:07:17] But he deals more with, like, these space battles, like the Kree and the She-I-R. A lot of characters that we're probably going to be getting in the next phase. So, I mean, I feel like a two-hour movie or even, like, an hour and a half movie is not enough time to give us enough emotional connection to Nova as a character. I feel like Richard Rider needs a full-on TV series. Yeah, yeah.

[00:07:43] So, while talking to The Wrap about season two of Chad Powers, Waldron was asked about the status of Nova. I don't know if I can say anything about anything I'm doing with Marvel, but I will say I love Nova. I love Rich Rider. However, expanding the cosmic side of the MCU will be really cool. So, there's still no confirmed date by Marvel, but Nova is flying closer and closer, and we may be getting it sooner than we think. Yeah. All right. So, let's go ahead and move on to our next story here.

[00:08:14] This one, this one, I feel for it, right? Because, guess there was only one web of lies. Oh, man. Prime Video won't move forward with the second season of Spider-Noir, bringing the stylish Marvel series to an end after a single season. Cancellation is surprising considering how well Spider-Noir was received.

[00:08:37] The series currently holds a 92% critic score and a 90% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes and scored 11 Emmy Award nominations more than any other Prime Video series in 2026. So, gotta ask this before we move on anywhere else. Did you guys watch Spider-Noir? I didn't, and I feel bad now. God damn it, Bobby! Because it's been... Well, I just... I was going to, and I just... It never happened.

[00:09:07] You know, I'm kind of in the same boat. Like, I started it, and then for whatever reason, we never, like, jumped back on it. I think we started it late, and then something else came up, and next thing you know, like, time passed, and we're like, okay, we'll get back to it. We'll get back to it. But we just didn't get back to it. Right, and then you keep saying that, and you never... Yeah. I love Spider-Noir. It was such a good series. You finished it? Yeah, I did. Such a good characterization. It, but it's so different.

[00:09:37] But I love the way they kind of, like, twisted some of the story elements around, because there were things that I absolutely was pissed off about, like, you know, some of the rumors and the changes and stuff, and then it all made sense with the way that they put the story together. So I was like, no, this is actually really good writing. I absolutely love this show. I'm kind of upset that they're not getting a second season. Yeah. Yeah. Was it... Even if you, you know, didn't care that much for it, you'd still kind of want to give it a second chance. Right. It is very stylish.

[00:10:07] It's very, you know, has a really interesting voice just from trailers and things. So, yeah. Let me ask you this. Did it button up with one season? Like, was it contained enough, or was there a lot of, like, left open season two type storylines? So they contained it enough where they can justify ending the show after one season.

[00:10:36] It's one of those things where, like, as you continue watching it, you want more. You definitely want more of this whole thing. I had to watch it. So I did watch it twice because they said, you know, watch it in black and white first and then watch it in color. And it is a different experience if you watch it both ways. Which one did you prefer? Sure. I kind of liked the black and white better. Really? Yeah. I felt like it fit the noir story a lot better.

[00:11:05] The color was fine. The colors were very vivid. I was not expecting a lot of those colors to be the way they were. And they explained the reason that some of those colors, some of the reason they went with some of the colors they went with was because of the way it shows up in black and white. So some of those colors have a better gray scale. So they went with these vibrant colors because in grayscale it looked a lot better. Yeah.

[00:11:32] So I thought that was smart to kind of go that direction and have this very vibrant comic book-y colorful world. But it was specifically just to give more credence to the noir aspect of the black and white. So I did like that. And kind of give like a technicolor kind of style to it too. Right. Right. Yeah. I'll have to go back and take a look and watch it. It's still on our list, but it's just one of those ones that didn't.

[00:12:01] It never makes it to the top. It's like, oh, Reacher's on. Okay. Let's watch Reacher first. Which I just caught up on Reacher this weekend. So there we go. Exactly. So Nick Cage spoke about the news. For me, one season is perfect. Having said what I wanted to say with this dangerous, innovative pop art Spider-Man. Cage said in a statement to Deadline adding onwards, upwards, inwards. The show reportedly carried a hefty price tag.

[00:12:27] And while viewership was respectable, it apparently didn't reach the blockbuster levels needed to justify another season. Spider-Noir is available in its entirety, both black and white and in color. On Amazon Prime Video. Interesting. Very. Very. Again, I may go watch it a third time now. Well, I mean, that makes a lot of sense. Like, if it had a huge price tag on it and it didn't. Yeah. But still.

[00:12:56] It just came out okay. Or like, oh, it was pretty good, but it didn't grab people. That makes sense why they would cancel it. Right. Okay. So, is Marvel swooning for Sidney Sweeney? James, are you swooning for Sidney Sweeney? I'm swooning as we speak. There we go. A new rumor claims Sidney Sweeney is in talks for a major role with Marvel Studios. Again. Nothing has been announced and there's no word on which character she could play.

[00:13:25] So, how many of you guys think that she's going to be Mystique? Well, I mean, she's definitely not a rogue. That was the whole thing. She was supposed to be rogue, right? She was supposed to be Emma Frost, I think. Oh, yeah. Yeah, they were talking Emma Frost for the longest time. I don't know, man. It's just. I mean. There's still plenty of roles out there. Yeah. I don't know if I want her as Mystique, honestly.

[00:13:50] I don't know who I want as Mystique, but I don't think she has the right kind of vibe for Mystique. Yeah. I think she has more of a Mystique vibe than, say, the next character that comes to mind would be like Kitty Pryde. Or like Jubilee. I feel like she's too old for Kitty Pryde. I feel like she's not the right fit for Jubilee. Maybe Lalandra. Maybe she's a bird woman. That I could see.

[00:14:21] I could see that. That's. Yeah. Like, I think we could find a place where I'm just not sure if it's Mystique necessarily. Honestly, thinking of Sydney Sweeney, the person that comes to mind, like someone I think that she may actually do well with as a character, is Magic. Yeah. Yeah. It's. Yeah. Especially if they port over the version of of what's his name? Colossus from from the Deadpool movies.

[00:14:51] Hmm. Yeah. I think she might actually have a good dynamic with that with that version of Colossus. Yeah. Okay. I think. Yeah. I'm not sure. I'm not really sure what I what I would want her to be. But. Yeah. So tomorrow weaving is reported and announced to play Emma Frost was is reported again when we're talking tomorrow weaving for some reason. My head went to Sydney Sweeney is reported and announced to play Emma Frost in the MCU.

[00:15:17] Some stand some standout X-Men names include Mystique, Kitty Pryde, Magic and Boom Boom. Boom Boom. Boom Boom. Boom Boom. Boom Boom. Let's go. Some new mutants action. All right. Yeah. Right. X-Men will hit theaters May of 2028. Like I said, Magic. I feel like she fits Magic really well. Yeah. Yeah. You know, like young blonde, but with like a dark side. Definitely Sydney Sweeney. Yeah.

[00:15:44] I think I think she fits that that that mold a little bit well. So let's go ahead and move on from here, guys. Doomsday. More like Rums Day. Because because there's so many rumors. Okay. I was trying to think. Okay. Doomsday reshoots have wrapped, which brings a plethora of potential plot leaks, including several surprise cameos. The death of a longtime MCU hero.

[00:16:14] Obviously, spoiler warnings. Obviously, take it with a grain of salt. Obviously, these are rumors. So we don't know if they're actual spoilers. I got to ask you guys. Everybody in the chat here. Garz, are you are you interested in Doomsday rumors or do you just want to see the movie already? Yeah. Okay. Let me say I'm kind of done with rumors. I kind of want to see what's going to happen now. Just like them dropping the trailer.

[00:16:43] I'm like, that's that's all I want. I want confirmation. But the rumors are getting kind of interesting. So I'm interested to see what happens because we've had so many different rumors, so many different stories about Doomsday. And some of it are like super far fetched. But now that we're kind of getting down to the nitty gritty, like I kind of want some of these to come true. So I just put a poll in the chat right now.

[00:17:11] And it just says, are you interested in Doomsday rumors or do you just want the movie already? And I put rumors question mark. Give me the damn movie. So let's talk about some rumors, guys. We've got rumors of Deadpool, Spider-Man, and not just any Spider-Man, but Tobey Maguire's Spider-Man, Captain Marvel, and are they joining the final battle? Even the Hulk, a Hulk variant may make an appearance.

[00:17:40] Will Bucky lose more than his vibranium arm? Could we get Captain Hydra? Will Wanda make her return? Oh, my gosh. See, I already heard there's going to be Deadpool and there's going to be Wolverine. And the movie opens up with them fighting Tobey Maguire's Spider-Man. I will say nothing of what I know. Some of this kind of comes true.

[00:18:07] But one new rumor, and this is where I'm like, okay, I'm done with the rumors. But then you feed me like a little nugget. I'm like, okay, give me a little bit more. Is that, yes, we're getting Deadpool, Wolverine, Spider-Man at the beginning of the movie. And then Tobey's Earth dies. But then later on, they come back somehow. So like maybe Deadpool took them to the void or something like that. But then they come back to fight. I'm like, okay, I kind of like that now. Somehow.

[00:18:37] Yeah. The X-Men have returned. I'm kind of into it. I'm kind of into it. Is that what kind of stuck? Because the rumor was it was Spider-Man versus Wolverine. And that's how things end. But like if they come back later on and a little redemption of them fighting together. Yeah. I mean, that would be fun too. Well, guys, Avengers Doomsday. We'll get all those answers and more when Doomsday arrives in theaters December 18th. If you haven't bought your tickets already, get them. Yeah.

[00:19:08] You get those tickets. Right, James? In Infinity Vision. In Infinity Vision. Vision. Vision. Vision. Vision. And then we follow that up with. Shut up and take my money. Here we go. Disney just take all of it. We don't want it at this point. That's a lie. You know you're going to take it anyway. Just take it now. True. It's 100% true. All right. Let's move into my last story.

[00:19:35] The last story I've got on the Marvel outline docket here. Has Marvel quietly found one of the most powerful characters? Noah Jupe, known for A Quiet Place and Hamnet. Did you guys watch Hamnet? Nope. Yeah. I didn't either. Yeah. Didn't go into that. I heard it was really sad. You uncultured swine. Right. He got a lot of awards. So. Very sad movies tend to win a lot of awards.

[00:20:05] Yeah. So Noah Jupe has reportedly joined an upcoming Marvel film in an undisclosed role. Multiple online scoopers are pointing towards a character who makes a lot of sense for a movie dealing with the fate of the multiverse. Franklin Richards. Ooh. Ooh. Ooh. How do you guys feel about Noah Jupe potentially playing Franklin Richards?

[00:20:27] I don't know much about the character or about the actor, but I do kind of like, I mean, we're looking at a picture of him and he's like some 20-ish something year old. I'm looking at, yeah. Like I'm looking at a picture. I'm kind of into it. Yeah. He's got the look. He's got the power. I wonder if there's going to be a time jump once we get into Secret Wars. Yeah. It's going to be interesting.

[00:20:57] If this kid is playing Franklin Richards, we have to have a time jump because Franklin Richards, as we've seen him last within the MCU, was still an infant. So there would need to be a jump of some sort or something that ages him up for some reason. Yeah. Well, I think in that post-credit scene with Doom, he looked three, four years old.

[00:21:25] So we'll see what happens with this. But, you know, it kind of makes sense. Okay, yes. Age him up so we get a deeper storyline. But I don't think they're going to age everybody up. This could be a weird Franklin thing where he's aged up and nobody else is. It could be like a variant from a doomed universe or something. It could also be that, too. It could be like he's the one that saves everybody. Yeah. Yeah. Interesting. Right.

[00:21:53] So according to the latest claims, Joop could be playing an older version of Franklin, the son of Reed Richards and Sue Storm. Joop is 21, putting the Franklin much closer in age to the young mutants expected to populate Marvel Studios' upcoming X-Men reboot from Jake Schreier. Hmm. Okay. Now, rumors have claimed that Sue is pregnant again in Doomsday, which would be their daughter.

[00:22:16] And that she will eventually become Doctor Doom's wife on Battleworld with Franklin and Valeria presented as their children. Then there's Joop's recent letterbox activity. Fans notice that the actor has logged multiple viewings of the Fantastic Four first steps. People just like watching what he watches. Yeah. Marvel hasn't confirmed that Joop is playing Franklin Richards.

[00:22:45] So this remains firmly a rumor. Do you think Joop would be a good choice for Franklin Richards? Do you think that he's got a good look to him? And like in all reality, like you don't really need anyone specific to be Franklin Richards. Yeah. So does he look a little bit like Pedro Pascal? A little bit. He's got a little bit of a Pedro look to him. Yeah. Yeah. A little bit of Pedro, yeah. I think so too. I think so too. Hmm.

[00:23:14] He could be the Mandalorian's offspring. I mean, Reed Richards' offspring. Yeah. Avengers Doomsday arrives December 18th, followed by Avengers Secret Wars on December 17th of 2027. All right. Well, that is what I have for the Marvel side of things. So let's jump into the next segment here. It's time watching The Watchtower.

[00:23:43] Insert music here. All right. Let me jump into this. Dun, dun, dun, dun, dun, dun, dun. Prepatente? It is prepatente. All right. Let me dive in. I wonder who she's really playing. Sadie Singh tried her best mind bending skills to convince us she wasn't playing Jean Grey in MCU.

[00:24:10] Now Adriana Arona is trying to do the same thing in DC. Adia Arona. Don't be that guy. Are you going to be that guy? Say it again. Say it again. Adia Arona. Arona. Roll that R. Give it to me one more time. Arona. Arona. There you go. Arona.

[00:24:31] While promoting A24's Onslaught, Adriana Arona offered a couple of interesting details about joining the DCU. She confirmed that unlike some actors cast in secretive superhero projects, she actually knew exactly which character she was auditioning for. That's interesting. That is very interesting.

[00:24:54] Because she said she was playing Maxima. Okay. Okay. Whatever is this. Why are we talking about Maxima? That's weird. So will Adriana Arona actually play Wonder Woman? Because when asked about the costume in her mystery role, Arona said, I love my costume. Really like my costume. Both costumes, actually. Both characters.

[00:25:23] Wonder Woman and Maxima. If you're a fan of the comics, they have great costumes. And then she followed up with, I'm sworn to secrecy. I don't like secrets. I hate surrogate secrets. I'm so bad at them. Like, what kind of media coaches are you getting right now? Wonder Woman. I mean, Maxima. I mean, I love them both. I mean, I love their costumes. Like, I couldn't even say. I love all my children equally. She says, no, I'm playing Cheetah.

[00:25:51] I couldn't even tell you what Maxima looks like. You know? Oh, my gosh. She's awfully. She's playing Big Barda. She's playing Big Barda. Yeah. Good. Good. Yep. Okay. So let's just assume she's playing Wonder Woman. What do you think of her as Wonder Woman? I think she fits Wonder Woman really well. I think she looks great. Yeah. I think that's a good. It would be a good casting. Yeah.

[00:26:21] Can I just say. So I was not interested in this movie Onslaught until Joe posted something about it. And then I went and watched the trailer. And I'm like, I need to see this movie. That good, huh? The trailer sold me. It's pretty nuts. A24. Yeah. A24. Putting those movies out. Yeah. I think she's going to be Wonder Woman. She just can't lie very well. Yeah. Yeah. All right. Yeah.

[00:26:51] She would. Yeah. She would. She would do great. So we know she can be a badass. So. Yeah. If you if you go like, hey, sorry, we're not getting Gal Gadot back, but we're going to get Adriana Arjona. Yeah. I think I'm in. I think I'm in. It's funny. The entire chat is all voting. Yes. Everybody agrees. Adriana Arjona should play. Yeah. She should play Wonder Woman. I like it. I agree. I agree.

[00:27:19] And we don't have our resident Wonder Woman expert here to give her two cents. That's her fault. I'm just talking smack. Jen, we miss you so much. You come back. DC returns with Man of Tomorrow flying into theaters July 9th, 2027. That is right. Well, ladies and gentlemen. Okay.

[00:28:11] So let's jump into the next set of stories that we've got going on here. It is time for headlines to talk about all the quick stories going on in the world. And it is time for me. Right. So let us get started. Also, for more news trailers reactions, check out the distance turning post on Facebook. Let us know what you're turning out on. Nothing is stronger than family except the director's chair. Fast forever has become complicated.

[00:28:41] Diesel Vin Diesel recently posted a black and white photo on Instagram featuring Dom's 1970 Dodge Charger with a caption director. Hmm. No explanation. No additional context. Is Vin Diesel going to try to direct the film? So Vin Diesel directing, good or bad for the franchise? I've got family. What do you think? You know what's interesting? I don't know if he's directed anything else and we're just going to give him this huge film? I don't think he has.

[00:29:11] I don't think he has ever directed anything else. Even if he has, I haven't heard of it. So I don't. Right. As close as he is to this. This movie just seems to be like a complete shit show at this point. Right. Like as close as he is to this project, he should be able to direct it. But it's also like, don't you want somebody that can bring a fresh take to this? Yeah. I also feel like just being an actor, as long as he has been, I feel like there might be sensibilities there.

[00:29:40] I mean, he's not a bad actor. You know, he just, he's also not in the best material that's out there. But I mean, the dude is a massive nerd. Like a lot of people don't realize that. But I mean, like, yeah, I mean, I feel like he has good sensibilities when it comes to filmmaking in general. So I feel like he might do okay. Yeah. Yeah. All right. Well, I mean, so Louis Leterrier, I'm assuming that's how you pronounce his name. Louis Leterrier. Who directed the past? Leterrier. Sure. Leterrier.

[00:30:12] Leterrier. Right. Leterrier. Leterrier. Leterrier. Who directed Fast X has been attached to direct the next movie and hasn't been in the official announcement saying that has changed. Leterrier. Previously explained that he remains fully committed to finishing the fast story. At the same time, he isn't interested in sitting around waiting for all the pieces to fall in the place. So he's continued directing other projects. Yeah. I don't know. So the final chapter of the Fast and Furious saga is currently scheduled to race into theaters

[00:30:41] on March of 2028. So we'll see what happens. I wonder if Vin has ever done like second AD work. Maybe. That seems more likely than. Yeah. Because a lot of times as a director, you start off as you start off doing like AD, right? Like you start off doing like a second unit director or something like that, you know? And I wonder if he's done any second AD work. I'm going to look it up real quick while you're talking. Yeah.

[00:31:11] Well, while you're looking it up, I'm going to go to the next story. Go, go Matt Damon, Ranger? We have our first look at Matt Damon in the Daniels Mysterious New Sci-Fi Movie. And yeah, those Power Rangers reports suddenly make a lot more sense. Damon is heating up with Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert. Oh, the Daniels. Yes. Yes. For the first feature since Everything Everywhere All at Once. And the project has been kept under wraps by Universal.

[00:31:38] So this is not a Power Rangers thing, but are you interested in Power Rangers style, Matt Damon? You missed an opportunity to sing. Go, go, Damon Rangers. Go, go, Damon Rangers. Go, go, Damon Rangers. I was doing it where I got confused kind of. Yeah. Looking at the pictures, it looks interesting. It does.

[00:32:06] It looks more like Battle of the Planets to me. Is that weird? Remember Battle of the Planets? You know what he reminds me of? He looks almost like just adding in the helmet. But he looks almost like a kind of like a low rant One Punch Man. Yeah. I see that. He's just a hero for fun.

[00:32:32] But if you notice in the photo, there's the other like or two more Rangers or whatever we call them. Yeah. In the background. There's a Green Ranger and a Yellow Ranger in there. There's another picture of all of them lined up in their suits. Interesting. And it's just, yeah. It is a very interesting. The title is also very interesting. Should do. Go ahead and continue, man. I'm just going to continue. So the movie is currently filming under the working title Thasnagar.

[00:33:01] With plot details being officially kept secret, the film has previously been described as a superhero tentpole with global warming as the villain. So sounds kind of Captain Planet-y. Thasnagar is said to carry a budget north of $150 million, roughly six times what the Daniels had to make everything everywhere all at once. So, yeah, this sounds intriguing at the very least. And the film is currently scheduled to hit theaters on November 19th of 2027.

[00:33:28] I'm sure that the fight scenes are going to be amazing because what they did with a crap budget for anything, everything, everything, and everything, everywhere, all at once. Everywhere, all at once. I can never say that like fast. Like them having the budget that they had, but the amount of amazing fight scenes in that movie. But giving them a big budget is – I'm thrilled to see what they're going to do with that.

[00:33:56] It's crazy that this movie comes out in like, what, 13 months? Yeah. And we know nothing about it. And it's got Matt Damon and the Daniels. And we're like, what is this? I was going to say, aside from that the Daniels are directing it and Matt Damon is a Power Ranger, like, oh my God. It looks to be like a Power Rangers pastiche. Yeah. So this will be really interesting. The chat is all for it. So right now, the poll in the chat, 100%, everybody is saying they want to see Power Rangers with Matt Damon.

[00:34:26] Great. All right. Well, we move on. If Kratos stands very still, he's still not invisible. Dave Batista is getting into Kratos shape. Batista posted a video on his Instagram showing off his increasingly muscular flame, flame, increasingly muscular frame, and revealed that he still has another couple of months before reaching his target. He said, quote, third week into weight training again. And he captioned the video, two more months to get where I need to be, like riding a bike. Let's fucking go.

[00:34:54] So are you excited for God of War on Amazon with Dave Batista as Kratos? James, you're looking at the same picture I'm looking at, right? I may be biased. We are all looking at the same picture. Yes. I'm all for Dave Batista as Kratos. Well, I was going to say, does Dave look more ripped now than he did when he was wrestling? Yeah. He looks more cut, but he doesn't have as much mass. Right.

[00:35:23] He's not cultivating as much mass. He looks fucking ripped, man. He looks more ripped than a sheet of paper, bro. That man, his abs are absolutely ridiculous right now. And his abs were already crazy when he was wrestling. Yeah. You know what's funny? It's hard to tell because the way his tattoos are. It's kind of hard to see definition, but he's got a ton of definition already.

[00:35:52] His body fat is so low right now, but he's still got so much muscle mass that he's cultivating. I love saying cultivating. And not that Ryan Hurst wasn't, because if you look at the pictures of Ryan Hurst before he got hurt, he was ripped like that too. And it's like Ryan Hurst has always been a dude that was like kind of, he was like a bigger guy, but never as ripped as he was for this project. So, I mean, there's something about God of War where everybody's just getting absolutely ripped up. Yeah.

[00:36:22] I mean, look at this picture of Kratos here. It's pretty, yeah. You've got to have a lot of bulk. Right. To properly do that. You know what's interesting, though? Ryan Hurst is taller than Dave Bautista. Yeah. Like Dave Bautista is 6'4". I didn't realize Ryan Hurst was like 6'5", 6'6". Were you not there when we met him? I saw him sitting down. I was going to say, Ryan is big, man. He's a tall guy.

[00:36:51] I saw him signing autographs, but I never like, you know, stood next to the guy. It's so crazy. But yeah, it's, but Dave, Dave just feels like big and ominous. I think it's his frame. He just has a wider frame or something. Yeah. I'm all for it. It's good. So Bautista, as we've established, appears well on his way to looking like he stepped straight out of the PlayStation franchise. God of War had been expected to arrive on Prime Video in 2027, though the change in lead actor could potentially push Smear into 2028.

[00:37:21] So yeah, we're going to move on here. Pew. Florence Pew. The world of 007 could be getting a lot bigger, and Florence Pew may be one of the first major stars. A new report claims Amazon MGM Studios is considering an adaptation of The Moneypenny Diaries for Prime Video, with Pew potentially taking the lead in the series. Pew has already several massive projects on her plate, including Doomsday, Brand New Day, and Dune Part 3.

[00:37:49] So does James Bond need to expand the inner universe stories? I kind of like this idea. Yeah. Yeah. I always want more James Bond, but taking it in a different way like this, I kind of like it. Like, give me a fresh story that kind of ties into James Bond, but something feels fresh about it. Yeah. I'm all for it. I like the idea of her playing a young M. Mm-hmm. You know.

[00:38:19] Oh, a young M. Okay. Yeah. So I mean, like, I'm kind of for this. Yeah. I can see it. What if she's a young M, right? But like later on, she takes on the name Moneypenny, you know? But it's just like James Bond and 007, they're just kind of code names, like M and Moneypenny. What if they're all just code names? Yeah. They're supposed to be, so. Yeah. Yeah.

[00:38:45] And of course, so we'll just move on to the actual, like, more details here. So one big question is whether Pew would also appear as Moneypenny in the upcoming James Bond films. For context, the Moneypenny Diaries is an officially authorized trilogy of James Bond novels written by Samantha Weinberg under the pin name Kate Westbrook. The novel reinvents, or the novels reinvent, Miss Moneypenny as Jane Vivian Moneypenny, giving her a personal history, ambitions, secrets, and adventures of her own.

[00:39:15] The first novel, The Moneypenny Diaries, Guardian Angel, is set in 1962 during the Cuban Missile Crisis. It follows events within MI6 while Bond is struggling with the aftermath of On Her Majesty's Secret Service. Hmm. So, yeah. So it is kind of an interesting spinoff series there. So should Amazon bet on Florence Pugh and The Moneypenny Diaries? Right now, she is absolutely certifiable. So I think. Oh, yeah.

[00:39:44] Florence Pugh is the best person to put your money on. I'm with it. She is really doing a lot of things right now. And so I think it's a good. She's a good get. Yeah. And I love her attitude right now. She just came out today and said that she is never going to. Because of her younger years, she changed her body. And they told her she needed to get plastic surgery. And she needed to have her face changed and whatnot. And she came out today and said that she is never going to change herself for a role ever.

[00:40:14] And she will always. Good. I mean, yeah. Like she will always train herself in a way that fits the character. But she'll never completely change herself in order to do stuff. And I have so much respect for her for that. So sorry. Yeah. No, no, that's great. And yeah, I, you know, I think she always looked lovely. So. All right. We are moving on. By the eye of Horace, let this not bore us. Disney is working on another series from Percy Jackson author Rick Riordan.

[00:40:44] This time bringing the expansive mythological universe inside the Kane Chronicles to life. A live action series adaptation of the book series is currently in development at Disney+. Riordan will create the series along with Angela Robinson, who did How to Get Away with Murder, True Blood, The L Word, a bunch of other things. So I'll kind of get more into the actual, you know, setting and lore and whatever in a second here. But will you be watching the Kane Chronicles? If it's as good as Percy Jackson, then I say yes.

[00:41:14] The whole thing with this is what's surprising is Disney just came out and said they're not going to be doing any more live action TV series. So it's interesting that they announced the live action TV series. So I'm this does excite me to say that, like, they're not giving up on these shows. That the only thing that worries me is, is it going to be a lot lower budget than Percy Jackson? Because Percy Jackson thrives so well with the big budget that they have. Yeah, exactly. And it kind of needs to.

[00:41:43] It's very grand, expansive stories because it's, you know, mythology. I love these kind of young adult coming of age type stories like this or Harry Potter. I think the amount of world building and mythology that goes into this and just keeps expanding and expanding. I like that. I like that. Even though when I'm an adult, I still watch Harry Potter or Percy Jackson. And I like that world building building.

[00:42:12] And nice segue into talking about some of the world building. So the Kane Chronicles is a trilogy. The story is based on Egyptian mythology this time and is set in the same universe as another series. The Camp Apple of Chronicles and Magnus Chase, Gods of Asgard. Sorry, it's Magnus Chase and the Gods of Asgard, along with Percy Jackson, of course. The book series takes siblings Carter and Sadie Kane on adventures where they are forced to attend with the Egyptian gods and goddesses in the modern world. So similar kind of vibe to Percy Jackson, it seems.

[00:42:41] Wait, hold on. The same? Is this in the same universe as Percy Jackson? Yeah. All of Ryden's stuff is in the same universe. I'm in. Oh, my God. How cool is that? And he also has the Gods of Asgard with Magnus Chase. So, I mean, like, he's got it. It's all the mythologies. I had no idea. I'm in. All the religions are true there. So the question here is, do you do all three of those series and then you have a Pantheon fight at the end?

[00:43:11] I think that's... I don't know if there was a conclusion to that. Like, there was a big... At some point, everybody came together. Yeah. Like, all the gods fighting against each other. Yeah. I mean... Supremacy of the Pantheon. Like, Chronicles Doomsday. Yeah. I'm in. Give me this. Yeah. That'd be cool. So, yeah. So, I will admit I never read the... I never read Beyond the Persuade Action stuff. So, I am not as familiar with this. But I'm sure it will be fun.

[00:43:39] And I love mythology and ancient religion and all that. So, yeah. So, are you a fan of the series? Who would you like to see starring in the adaptation? There was no date currently when the Kane Chronicles lands on Disney+. All right, guys. Yeah. So, we're going to jump into our last segment here. Let's drop this right here. We're jumping into... Oh, sorry. We got one more sponsor. We... We... We did it down to everything. Dis-disterting is part of the Geek Freaks Network.

[00:44:08] Discovering your latest binge, debating casting choices, or stalled over that plot twist. The Geek Freaks Network has got you covered. Your fandom, your community, your people geek out your way. Check out the Geek Freaks Network at gfpods.com. Once again, that is gfpods.com. Right. So, let's jump into this last segment here, guys. Guys, we've got the headlines. The two... We've got two last stories we're going to talk about here, guys. And this one kind of hurts a little bit.

[00:44:37] So, a sad Bruce Campbell question. Evil Dead actor Bruce Campbell revealed earlier this year that he had been diagnosed with a treatable but incurable form of cancer. During a recent appearance on the Adam Carolla show, which I didn't know Adam Carolla still had a show going on, he shared another difficult update saying doctors have given him an estimate of roughly five years. I have decided to live with it and not die from it, Campbell told Carolla. Guys, I need to ask everybody here,

[00:45:07] what is your favorite Bruce Campbell movie or moment? Should do. I'm going to give you a pass because I know that 90% chance you've never seen anything with Bruce Campbell in it. Sorry. Hey, I'm... Graveyarders here. It's hard to, like, get away from the iconic, you know, Army of Darkness or Evil Dead, but I'm a pizza ball guy, right? You know, give me a pizza ball. Pizza ball. I just want a pizza ball.

[00:45:35] Why don't they have pizza balls in Avengers Campus? I want a pizza ball. That actually would be a good idea. Yeah. Actually, Bubba Hotep is one of my favorite movies that he was in. Oh, there you go. Such a good movie, man. He plays Elvis. It was great. His approach is pretty straightforward. Keep living, keep working, and make the projects he wants to make. That includes Ernie and Emma, a comedy-drama Campbell wrote, directed, produced,

[00:46:01] and stars in alongside his wife, Ida Giron, who also produced the film. Campbell was focused on living his life, spending time with people he loves, and making the projects he wants to make. No Army of Darkness to ruin his attitude. That is... I like that he's taking charge and, like, hey, I'm facing this head-on, and it's like, I'm going to make the most of my time. Yeah. It is great that he is embracing it

[00:46:30] and saying, you know what? There's nothing I can do about this. Let me just live my life the best way I can. But, I mean, at this point, we've got, within the next five years, we need to rally around and get him on Graveyard Show. Yeah. Yes, we do. Graveyard just needs to move to... He needs to move to Oregon and just go do it. Yeah. See him at the grocery store and be like, hey, let's chat. Hey, big fan of your work. Like you're on the show.

[00:47:00] You are my hero. I have multiple tattoos of you on my leg. Yeah. Maybe don't open with that. No, no, definitely open with that. He's not going to be creeped out and run away. I got it. Graveyard moves to Oregon, does a roadside pizza ball stand, and then Bruce Campbell goes to sue him, and that's how he meets Bruce Campbell. This is good. This is good. We're going to have Pizza Daddy in the room.

[00:47:27] All right, let's move on to this last story here, guys. We have to move on. As much as I want to keep making these jokes, we're going to move on to this last story here. Screaming has spoken. The Mandalorian and Grogu didn't become the massive theatrical hit Disney and Lucasfilm were likely hoping for, but Din Djarin and his little green buddy are having way better luck on streaming. Disney released the movie in theaters on May 22nd,

[00:47:55] and it ultimately earned around $345 million worldwide against the reported $165 million production budget. It still made a good chunk of money. Was it a mistake to push the film into theaters? Do you guys prefer Mando on the big screen or on the couch? I saw it in theaters. So did I. Okay. Did you see that theater? I did not. Mando didn't get a chance to go and do it.

[00:48:23] So I will be watching it on streaming. I've got thoughts, but I'm not going to go super, super lengthy on them. Yeah, I have a lot of thoughts too. This is, yeah, because we are kind of bumping up against time here. Yeah, I have kind of said my piece before. I think this should have always been a streaming thing. I think it should have just done season four, whatever we're on. Simply because I think it works better as a show,

[00:48:50] and you have an audience for the show that is on Disney+. You can't just be like, all right, we're going to transfer the audience to the movie theater. It's like, that's a, I think it's kind of a slightly different audience. A slightly different vibe. So they needed to have done more work. Like it should have been, okay, we have all the streaming stuff. All right. So now the big movie is going to be the big Heir to the Empire thing, the big, big Thrawn movie or whatever. But I think it was all part of, you know, your big corporate push to be like, well,

[00:49:18] we need to get more people in theaters and make more money and whatever. And so they were like, oh, let's, hey, turn this into a movie. Right. And that, it didn't, that was never a good idea. James, I know you agree with me on this after, cause we both saw it in theaters. Did it not feel rushed? It did not feel like they took an entire season of a show and try to put it into a movie. You know, what's funny. I'm always for like, keep it speedy, keep it up. And I, but for in this case, I do agree with you that there's just the,

[00:49:48] the plot pieces that, that kind of tie things together, right. You know, ties adventure to adventure to adventure. They just weren't there. It was just like a conversation then off to fight something else. And it just kind of felt rushed. Right. So I agree with you. A lot of the action set pieces were amazing. The stop motion scene was great. The lot of the fight scenes. Oh my God. It's so good. I, I thought it was amazingly great that in the opening credits,

[00:50:16] we got not only the, the, the, the actor who voices the character, but also Latif Crowder and, and Brendan Wayne. Right. Which was like a big deal that you, I've never seen action actors get top billing, which is amazing, you know? And, and especially the way Latif Crowder moves in that movie is just crazy. But I mean, like, you know, there are great scenes in the movie. Would this have been better as an entire season of a show?

[00:50:46] Yes. Uh, not that I didn't enjoy it as a movie, but I felt like it would have been better as a TV show. I, I agree that it would translate well to a show. That being said, for what was being asked, if there was any project that Lucasfilm would be like, all right, how, what do we need to do to take it from Disney plus TV show and bring it into a big budget movie? This was the movie to do it. Yeah. You know,

[00:51:16] it has an audience. It's got star Wars. It's, it's a family oriented movie. You know, I, I don't know how long it's been since star Wars has been in the theaters. Star work, star Wars is back in theaters. That sort of thing. It's been like five years. So, I mean, that's, that's, yeah, five years. Yeah. That was the big deal. So I, I think if anything, they, they took their chance, they shot their shot with Mando. Did it work as well as they wanted it to do? No, that being said, I still think it was good to put it into theaters.

[00:51:46] Now, here's the thing is what I'm about to say next. I called this. I knew it was going to, this has been the trend and, and I knew that this was going to be a thing. So after arriving on Disney plus on September 2nd, the star Wars movie shot to the top of the streaming charts. Flix patrol ranked the Mandalorian and Grogu as the number one movie on Disney plus world ride. And on September 6th, putting it ahead of the devil wears product to, and the rest of the platforms current movie lineup.

[00:52:15] So with that being said, the Mandalorian and Grogu is available now on Disney plus. I think that, and this would be my last point. I think that the big thing that's happening right now, the big trend that is happening is people are for the most part, waiting for movies to come out on streaming unless they are massive. Pushed tentpole movies. Like Spider-Man, right. Spider-Man is that thing.

[00:52:43] The Avengers is going to be that thing, right? I think he, man suffered from, yeah, I'll just wait until it's on streaming, right? The Mandalorian and Grogu, although it did beat its budget, that suffered from, ah, just wait till it comes out on streaming. That's, that's the thing is they are not building movies big enough for people to want to go out and go to the theaters for it. And again, we talked about this a couple of weeks ago. It's also the, the,

[00:53:10] the fact that theaters are still overcharging for a lot of things right now. So people don't want to go and spend all that extra money when they could just wait for it to come out on streaming. Again, as much as I hate what Paramount plus is doing right now, they did make that commitment that they are going to go back to the in theater model. And I think that's, what's going to force people to go back out to theaters. Yeah. Yeah. No, I mean, also there's a whole discussion to be had about whether that commitment is even serious. Right. So there's a whole thing there, but yeah.

[00:53:40] And you know, honestly, I think it's getting harder and harder to tell what's going to work and what's not going to work, you know? So budgets become a major issue with these, with these, uh, movie companies. I mean, look at Supergirl technically bombed at the box office, uh, Moana technically bombed at the box office. And you think those would be two big franchises or connections to big names, big studios. Do you think they would work? Right.

[00:54:09] But they didn't for some reason, but then things like toy story, that's like a billion dollars. Right. And everybody was like, Oh, they should have ended it at three. Should have ended at three, a billion dollars later. I think they're okay. Doing a number five. Yeah. I mean, you guys go out and spend the money for it. So, you know, people are going to go and go. Oh, if you go out to the theaters and go see it, it's, it's giving them, you know, kind of like false hope. If you're going like, Oh, I'll just wait until it comes out on,

[00:54:39] on streaming, you know? Right. Yeah. It's yeah. Not that you owe anything to these, these companies, but still, right. Right. I will say this. I don't think just because it didn't make as much money as it, as they were hoping for, I don't think Mandalorian and Grogui, was a fail. Yeah. I don't hear it being put into theaters. I hope this doesn't discourage them from doing more projects or take more shots like this. Yeah. My whole thing is I would prefer that they take projects that are,

[00:55:08] that originally were meant to be in theaters and, and do that and stop trying to adapt. Oh, here's something that was supposed to be a TV show. Cause you know, some of the TV shows suffered from the opposite where we took a movie and tried to turn it into a TV show and didn't have enough. Yeah. well, you know, didn't have enough content for it. And, you know, doing this with the movies, like we have too much content and we're trying to jam it into a movie, like develop things specifically for what you're intending it for.

[00:55:37] If it's supposed to be something that's two hours, you know, don't try and jam an eight hour show into a two hour movie. And then vice versa. Don't try and take a, something that was developed for a two hour movie and try and stretch that out to a six hour TV show because you're not going to get the same results. Yeah. Yeah. Anyways, that is, that is all we have enough time for guys. We're already kind of over on what we want to do here. So guys let's talk about our schedule because we've got a,

[00:56:07] we've got a lineup going on here guys. So right now, Tuesdays distance nerding from six 30 used to be the eight 30. I got to change this now from six 30 to seven 30 changed our format here guys. So we are, we're just ending right here. Thursdays. We typically do distance nerding interviews this week. We don't have a guest for the show. So, you know, it may just be me and graveyard talking smack for, for an hour. You know, maybe I might bring a build back guys. I still need, I finished this,

[00:56:38] this Seinfeld build. So let's do that. Right. Fridays is the buzzer. It's our game show from six 30 to eight 30. And we're going to be playing games. I think this week we've got a jet nerdy. So we're going to be playing. Hopefully we have a different. If we don't, we'll do another session. That's right. Hey, Hey, we, we, we, we, we will never be against D and D. If you missed our D and D game this weekend, guys, we did a session on Saturday, whole crap ton of fun for,

[00:57:05] or it's like the first time that my character came in and just kind of decided to actually play and dominate. So, although, although I did a bunch of bad-ass things and then rolled a bunch of like crappy roles for damage. And got, got, got thrown up by the, the D NPC. Oh my God. Yeah. The, the, the, the NPC decided to like just wreck everything that I did because I got like the worst roles for damage.
